No, the Costco version is 6 quart bowl lift design.

Tilt design:
Pro: Easy to scrape the side of the bowl, easy to add additional ingredients while running.
Con: Not good for dough and will move around on the counter, not easy to maintenance and repair as the Bowl lift version.

Bowl lift design:
Pro: More torque so good for dough, less moving on the counter, easy to maintenance and repair. Some versions have all metal gears so will last much longer.
Con: Hard to scrape the side of the bowl, need to stop the motor to add ingredients.

Do Not Buy This!

Get the one with the "bowl lift" for the same price when on sale. They are all the same machine electrically/mechanically, the difference is in the bowl/attachments, which if you take my recommendation, will allow you to put any size bowl you like into 1 single machine. Buy whatever size bowl you want, if it's a "bowl lift" style it will fit. If you buy this flip head design listed here, you're pretty much locked in to a single bowl size forever.

That's how they get ya!

I got my 5.5 qt "bowl lift" mixer just last Christmas from Best Buy at $249.99..... If I need 7 qt capacity all I need to buy is just a bowl and a matching whatever paddle. All the same machine, same power, but the "bowl Lift" gives you more options for the same money, when on sale.

Is this a good price? Been wanting a kitchenaid stand mixer but haven't really dived deep enough to know the differences between the different series and pricing. Does this artisan go on sale around Black Friday for around this price as well?
I think $250 for the 5-qt Artisan series tilt head seems to be the "new" sale price these days. I picked up one of these during the last BestBuy sale earlier in July. You can sometime find these less than $250 on deals, but often they sell out pretty quickly or they are refurbished models. I don't have any regrets purchasing this at $250, but if you're not in a rush, you might be able to snag on for less. However, if you want one, saving 10-30 bucks might not be worth a long wait when you can simply have a mixer now.

Last Black Friday, some local/regional stores offered this model (different colors) for $225 with up to $25 cash back. But that was largely brick-and-morter stores with limited stock. $250 is the 'standard' sale price for this one.

I bought my daughter one, on sale at manufacturer website. Stainless steel and it was the pro-version. 199.00 I think you we hold out it will be back on sale. Trying to buy another one for my other daughter. Just FYI - hate the color -

I rather doubt it; however, another option is buying from Target if preferable.
I have bought a lot of sale items from Amazon and they're usually used or refurbished.

As I understand it, the reason for plastic gears is so that if there's a problem, the gear will break, preventing the motor from burning out. Easier to burn out the entire motor with a metal gear.

How is well does the meat grinder attachment work? That would be my primary use case, with an occasional mix job thrown in. Thanks.

I'm very happy with mine so far, I have this one below:

https://www.kitchenaid.com/counte...smmga.html

If grinding meat is your primary use, I'd buy a dedicated grinder instead. Why pay more for a tool you won't really use? But the all metal attachment I have does a great job on meats and cheese. I've not tried to make sausage with it yet, and doubt that I ever will, but I certainly can if I wanted to with this attachment. It really does a great job though, I have no regrets after purchase.
