From what they posted, it is going to be a subset of the PS VR2 experience. Not bad as an additional use. But if you are looking primarily for a PC VR rig think the current consensus is to get a PC VR headset.

Am I mistaken, or is this an insane deal? (Do I wake up the wife..🤔.)

One of the first 2 rules in Slickdeals is buy now think later. How you got your psvr2. It's fun but not worth the retail price IMO.

Haha. I get the whole, wife is mad I'm buying more crap need to ask her. It's more a joke though, that lasts about 5 secs in my household. I work hard for my money... my wife gets a pedicure like every month and I don't say a word.

I have the PSVR2 and it's a tough one to recommend. Bought it at launch, also have a Quest 2/Quest3 and PSVR1, and the PSVR2 probably got the least of my time. I wanted to love it.

I will say that some of the best VR games are on it, and many of them have the VR mode as a 'freebie' with the original game. Resident Evil 4 VR? Amazing! Resident evil 8 VR? Also great! Gran Turismo? Awesome! Resident Evil 4 (PSVR2) is so much better than Resident Evil 4 (Quest) due to it being the full PS5 Remake Version instead of the older mobile/quest port.

A lot of the PSVR1 content is not compatible -- games need to be updated to take advantage of PSVR2 (basically a full re-do of how the VR works, so not just an easy update). About half of the PSVR1 titles that are PSVR2 compatible seem to be an additional charge to upgrade.

Many of the 'big release' titles ended up pretty disappointing. I can't even tell you what's still on the horizon for the platform, I haven't touched mine in months but play my Quest 3 a few times a week.

Bonuses: The resolution, CPU and OLED screen are much better than the Quest 3. Vibration mode and eye tracking are also great. The lack of pancake lenses hurt it a bit, as its not as clear as it could/should be. No color-passthrough. Tethered to your PS5, and PC VR is coming.. but its an upgrade/accessory.

I want to love it. I do still like it, but most of the games I still play are older ones that just got the VR modes (like Resident Evil 4/8/Gran Turismo) or ones on other platforms (beat saber, tetris, rez, etc..)

It's just hard to justify it. Last time I wrote this, I got shit on by people saying that SONY still had lots of support for it on the way, but I haven't seen anything at all since then. Quest 3 is finally getting exclusives and big titles like Batman: Arkham, whereas I don't see the big stuff coming for PSVR2 yet. Even just throwing more PSVR1 games at it (Resident Evil 7, Rush of Blood) would be great.

The last Astrobot game wasn't in VR either. I don't know why people expected any different. Apparently they have two VR games in the works at the moment. The headset is very worth it at this price even with the library it has now, plus it has PC support coming.
Astro Bot games are designed to showcase the technologies of the console. The PSVR1 had Astro Bot Rescue Mission.

It is absolutely not unreasonable to expect an Astro Bot game to be released for the PSVR2.

Insane deal for raw tech? Perhaps. However hardware not supported with good ongoing software is rather useless.

Sony showed their cards in the year+ since release. At best, they will maintain basic functionality.

Could they surprise? Sure, but it ain't gonna raise prices and this will be cheaper as time goes on until it's discontinued. In other words, this is no sale price, but rather the slow predictable march to lower price any tech experiences, and this one will be worse

Wishers and fanboy will always crap on truth. I took wish Sony took this seriously, but evidently it's just too costly for them, and I'm sure they are already in to their next R&D project to release

Yeah. They clearly don't have support. It's clearly being abandoned. Some Sony fanatics are just in complete and utter denial.

Reports said they overproduced and paused production in March. I'd bet all my money production never restarts. This is the all part of the push to clear the remaining inventory and pretend it never happened. This being on "sale" is like how when I bought my HP Reverb G2 on "sale" for 299.99. It turns out HP knew MS was going to be deprecating WMR and they were quietly clearance all their old inventory so they could exit the space. Sony is doing the same. It's the whole reason the PCVR adapter now exists. They're trying to find some new buyers so it's easier to get rid of the remaining inventory.

Absolutely. Just to be clear: I like the psvr2! But buying into it expecting more than a VR console "hanging in there" is just going to leave people disappointed. I had money and I'm fine spending it (at launch) on this, and have/had a great time with the games, but I wouldn't buy one expecting much more to come to it

It is when Sony never hinted at one whatsoever. Far more people played the PS5 tech demo than the VR version, and they wanted to make a game for that audience. Horizon is the game that shows off PSVR 2 so they don't need another one of those.

I wish that consumers had a way to try these out before buying. I suspect Sony might've sold quite a bit more of these if people had that opportunity somehow. I've had interest since Day 1 but I have eye issues and paying so much for a device that is a total up in the air buy that hasn't been supported very well has been too much for me.
Look for any Sony store they should have their tech on display and I tested out the psvr1 there before buying it on sale. Otherwise you can always buy it and return lol

I have a feeling Sony will kill this device and stop supporting it. Therefore low price

Got this an hour ago and the resolution is still so bad compared to my original Oculus Rift from like years ago (as in it's about the same feeling and that was very early VR). The scale is off in GT7 too. I can't see myself playing this more than once or twice so yeah it's going back. Maybe Quest or whatever is different or maybe it's more of the same without the kind of horsepower you get from a PC.
You ain't wearing it right if you think the original Rift holds a candle to it.
