I have a couple plastic Vornado fans that have lasted 10+ years and show no signs of quitting.

I picked one of these up a few years ago and it is a beast. Very good for bedroom or workout space.

I have seven vornado fans of various sizes/models and my all metal one is by far my least favorite, other than my 4 inch desk fan. That thing is garbage. The metal one makes this rattley metallic noise that I cannot find the source of no matter how hard I try. It also isn't consistent in its output. You can hear it randomly increase and decrease speed all the time. All of my plastic vornado fans make a nice pure fan hum with no discernible rattles and they blast air across an entire room. I have this model and its extra bulk is a worthwhile tradeoff for how much better it is than the four inch models. Don't waste your money on those.

And more expensive to build a capable small sized motor with additional speed settings, voltage, sound management, parts, etc. It likely didn't make sense to add speed settings to the current model because of minimal amount of change between them wouldn't add value and cost more. In general, this is why cheap things don't have more features, requiring you to purchase the next model up. 🌈 "the more you naur" 🇦🇺
Having more than two speeds on a $25 fan it not asking too much.

They would have sold a lot more of these units if they had more than just two settings at $25.

I think people don't realize that Vornado isn't the same company it was like a decade ago (give or take - I'm not looking it up.)

The company that offered lifetime warranties is no longer. They closed up shop and the name was sold to an investment group. That is the company running things now (and making the fans.)

One thing they did to reduce costs was to eliminate all of the (expensive) infinitely adjustable resistors and changed the fans to only have a few fixed speeds.

So, while I have a Vornado fan from 20 years ago or so, it's not at all the same product you'd get now.

Makes sense I have a few of the lifetime warranty ones that still work like a champ

I have an adjustable knob version of their larger fan, and a fan of the same make from several years later which has 3 speeds, and they are both great. Obviously the knob is better, but there's no apparent quality difference in the fans themselves.

Yeah that's when Vornado made good fans. The ones now don't last. I have a few and it doesn't hold it's tilt and slowly flops over lol. Cheap junk now.

also the ones from 10y ago was USA made.

The adjustable settings fans are still available. I just bought one a few months ago. They are listed as energy efficient models & are definitely more expensive.

It's utility is in being small and relatively cheap, I don't believe they would have sold that many more fans with more speeds.

Totally disagree with that. I have one from maybe 10 years ago, another from 5 years ago or so, and bought a third last year, and there's no obvious difference in quality between them. The 5 year old one isn't showing any signs of slowing down, and the new one seems just as sturdy as the others. Obviously everyone has a different experience, but acting like they're just universally selling garbage now is wrong. These are still great fans, in my experience.

Vornado makes long lasting fans. Just keep in mind this one is tiny.
