They have a built in straw so you can sip or tip it back like a normal water bottle. I usually prefer normal but I'm tall so in the car it's hard to drink once a bottle gets under half way full and I appreciate having a straw. Otherwise I'm literally opening the sunroof to get that extra height to be able to finish a water bottle. My wife got one (probably because of tiktok) and after borrowing it a few times I was sold. I've had a Yeti and hydroflask clones, but this is probably the most practical water bottle I've used. Basically just use it like a normal water bottle 90% of the time, and then in the car on when it's on the nightstand I can sip like a straw.

For anyone wondering, the name FreeSip comes from the fact that the spout you drink from has the option to guzzle by tipping the bottle up, or sip from a smaller opening within the main spout. It sounds clunky on paper but works well in practice.
But I do agree that it's too large for the average sized cup holder. My wife has stated that she wishes she bought one size smaller (28 oz iirc?).
Modern cupholders are horrible. They usually have all this dead space around them. That used to be an ash tray. Since hydration is the new smoking, they need to get with the program.
Our Odyssey fits 32oz Nalgenes, which is about as fat as they get. It's an X-rated affair, but it works.
How are these compared to the Hydroflask? Seems like they're all the same? My Hydroflask doesn't seem to hold ice in cold water very well has it melts within minutes.
