Lowest price seems to be $49 about a year ago. Return the battery for nearly 50% off on router. Just did this myself right after picking up my online order.

Instructions:
Step 1: Go to product page
Step 2: Click "Shop this offer" and add the Ryobi 2Ah battery
Step 3: Click to add both to cart
Step 4: Check out, discount is spread across both items in your cart
Step 5: Keep battery OR return to realize full savings

What if you say you got the battery as a gift and got $70 store credit? $10 router?
Unlikely, they usually will only give you the lowest possible price when you do that. You could get even less credit.

That'd be fraud. The deal is good enough as is without having to lie about your return.

Home Depot in northern New Jersey has stopped giving store credit for almost 2years now. No receipt or credit card information no return.

They scheduled the router for immediate pickup and the battery for the middle of next month. So that worked out.

Order from 2 different stores. Order the piece you don't want from a store with a quantity of 1. 9 times out of 10 the store will cancel and leave you with the piece you want at the reduced price.

I have seen this kind of deal on SD for many years. I finally have the need for a few tools in my life, so I'm happy to see it back. I see it works for a variety of tools HD sells from Ryobi. I'm eyeing this router and also a jigsaw.

Anyone with experience in this: how do you recommend getting multiple tools?

- Same receipt or different purchases?
- Return multiple batteries at once or does that raise alarm bells and eye rolls to staff?
- Is delivery or pickup better? And if pickup, do you turn right back around to pickup then return, or is that also abuse of a good deal or eye rolling of staffers?

In store pickup to 2 different stores. Pu the one u want. Leave the one u don't want and they will auto cancel/ refund after 7 or so many days if u don't grab it

I believe Home Depot uses The Retail Equation. Too many returns will get you blacklisted.

Same here. Store pick up today for the router and the battery in a week. That makes it easier since I can just let the battery sit until they refund. I have not been able to cancel store pickups online for some reason.

Wow ...
Any thoughts/comments on the router itself? Anyone has experience using it?
I am new to it and it will be my first router. What should I look for?

I have 2. They work well for smaller bits with 1/4 shaft. I keep a small round over and chamfer in mine.

The real question is "which item has the bigger markup normally" are they losing money on both, if so then the hack limits their loses to a single item.

My guess is that the hack at this point is marketing, these hacks generate a lot of hype (as far as one can hype a sale).

"Oh no they are only buying 1 steeply discounted item instead of 2". And " oh no everyone on Reddit and SD is talking about how great a deal ryobi is"

It's this. The "hack" can easily be taken care of in the purchase system if they wanted to.

The more ryobi products you buy, the more ryobi products you WILL buy. "oh no, they've returned the basic 2ah battery." as you buy HP or 4-6ah batteries to support your tools. This is how printers have worked for years....the hardware gets you in the door..the expendable batteries is what keeps you coming back.

So, they get people with a large base of their products, they get word of mouth of use, they have a user base who feels smart because they're "getting a deal", but that increases your fondness for the company because buying them makes you feel smart. And they may lose $50 on a sale.....how much will you spend because you're part of their eco-system? How much will your neighbor spend because they've borrowed your tool and decided to get one?

AND how much money will Home Depot get because "well, as long as I'm here picking this up, I might as well get this plant and some 2x4s and these bolts, and some lightbulbs...." Getting people thru the door is the hardest thing in retail.
