Yup! That is the question. I know I'm conflicted and hoping others post what they are going to do, and see if that moves the meter more towards buying NOW, lets see what the afternoon brings from the gang.
Back in December 2023 I got these for $179.99 - crazy how SSD prices are still pricey now
I remember back in nov/dec 2023 too, how the prices were between 150-180 dollars ... some included heat sinks. I was not in hurry since I spent my money on other things, ... the last 8 months prices went up ... and stayed up. I guess the uncertiainly in taiwan/china? ... that keeps the prices up. I think I saw usa is trying to make the ssd's in america ... but don't know the time-frame or if it's vaporware.
This defies logic.
The 1TB is $68, the 2TB is $112 and this one is more than double the 2TB at $226, when it should have a similar pattern and be $185. Pass for me.
Things in life do not always go linearly. Supply and demand also dictate the pricing.

And the 8tb is $850 plus. I guess that defies logic too? 🤣🤣🤣
They keep prices up because they're out of new technology, and the speed improvements are hardly noticeable to the average person.
You see all these Qualcomm and new AMD laptops coming out that are seriously packing? They are practically liquidating the older gen laptops to make room.
The only reasons prices would come down would be because of competition or new technology, and unfortunately they don't compete, they price fix. Whatever new tech they're advertising is just bigger numbers, it's not even an improvement on latency.
I've purchased three of these and they all work great. I use them for photo & video editing off my 16" M2 Macbook Pro inside Acasis TBU405 Thunderbolt Enclosures.
Here's the prices I got them for since 2023:
