I've been using Shokz for about a decade, including these. While I enjoy the OpenRun, I dislike the proprietary charger. It ostensibly improves water resistance, but I've never had an issue with older models. For the price I wish they'd include (or at least offer separately) a charging case. At least you can buy USB-C adapters cheaply online.

Other than that, not the best sound quality compared to other types of headphones, but that's not the point. These are incredible for situations where you want to be aware of your surroundings, whether it's exercising or at work. When needed you can use these with ear plugs (still included I think?) which also improves sound quality some. Very comfortable for me (I forget I'm wearing them) and work fine with glasses. The one issue is the back sticks out a way, so it can be an issue using them laying down, or sitting in some chairs. At high volume they cause skull vibrations I find a bit unpleasant for me, but again I buy them so I'm aware of my surroundings and keep them pretty low.

It's why I recommend the minis. They fit me plenty fine with about a finger worth of gap between the back of my head and the band. Haven't found someone yet in my family that needed the normal sized ones. The minis seem to fit most people.

What's the difference between the Openrun and Openrun SE? Couldn't really find anything online about it
DIfference between the Openrun and Openrun SE (and Pro) as provided by someone from a previous Costco deal:
Costco Members: SHOKZ OpenRun SE Wireless Bone Conduction Sport Headphones (slickdeals.net)
Edit: it didn't link the first time.

I am now an Openfit man. I now only use my Openrun in the shower. Openfit is slightly more comfortable, and I can wear it on one ear for side sleeping. The only downside is if a fly or something goes at my ear, I sometimes knock them off trying to get the bugger away.

Adding on to this… I just do the hike in a trainer at home and don't need spatial awareness. But I love Shokz!!!

I love them because they keep me from overheating during rides, they don't fall out like buds and they don't cover my ears which gives an echo when I talk.

Now not only do k wear them on the trainer. But I also wear a different pair all day at work as I make phone calls. It is absolutely goated imo

I travel very infrequently, but I went on a trip in April, and on the recommendation of a friend, I got a pair of OpenRun Pro Minis to use with foam ear plugs instead of noise-cancelling headphones. I figured I could also use them during bike rides (currently use a small speaker). The sound quality was only OK, and when I used the ear plugs, it knocked down the mid-highs to highs even more (which makes sense), meaning some voices weren't as clear and music sounded muffled. I returned them as soon as I got home.

I got a bit excited when I saw the OpenSwim Pros announced. I don't take my phone with me when I run or lift, and having the ability to switch to BT mode during bike rides and other situations where I do have a phone seemed like a great solution. But the form factor left a lot of extra behind my head that contacted my helmet and was generally a little uncomfortable (the previous Mini fit much better). The sound quality was still lacking compared to normal earbuds. I returned them after about a week of rides, runs, and gym trips.

For both models, I had to turn the volume up pretty far (70%+) to be able to consistently understand voices or enjoy music even though I have very good hearing (used to moonlight as a live sound engineer, checked my frequencies/sensitivities multiple times). This high volume resulted in a level of vibration on the contact points that caused a kind of fatigue in the muscles around my ears and temple. Not painful or even that uncomfortable; it was just obvious I'd been wearing them because the area around the contact point was kind of...numb?

I went back to my Sony swimmer headphones [sony.com] for gym/runs and my little rubber strap speaker [amazon.com] for bike rides, and I'm happy. But I have three friends who absolutely swear by them, so they're probably worth trying for anyone who has a good use case.

Are these actually better than the cheap knock off bone conduction versions? I'm on a second pair of those. The first one lost sound on the left side after 6 months. When researching I saw that was a common issue with Shokz too, so didn't see the point in spending more than 20$.

Whatever issue you have is not connected in any way to this item. Clearly you need to get that checked out. The sound on htese does not go loud either.
Thanks, doc

I tried the mini pro version and returned them due to the poor sound quality. I knew it wasn't going to be great, but man a $5 pair of buds from Temu would be better sound quality than these. I get it, it's for those who need spatial awareness. I am used to wearing a single bud so I can hear my surroundings and would rather do that with pass through enabled than these. To each their own, just know what you're getting into.
Are you sure you were wearing them properly? They need to make good physical contact.

Yes I made absolutely sure. Both myself and wife tried them, followed instructions. Watched videos. The contact to our faces was fine, the audio was just terrible.

Are these swimming-friendly?
I recently upgraded from the OpenSwim (mp3 only) to the OpenSwim Pro (mp3 + Bluetooth) and I can highly recommend the Pro. The amount of utility you get from the Bluetooth is a massive upgrade.

The sound in the water is not amazing, but way better than I expected. They do provide a separate EQ profile for underwater that helps. I also use them for running and they are excellent.

Yeah I specifically bought a lower end pair because they were USB c.

I'm at the point in time in my life that I only buy products that are USB c..

Those with my Verizon app I just saw deal pop up under offers. Pro version is just $10 more than this deal for $90. Pro is latest version and battery life is better than this deal posted.

Yeah, I haven't tried those yet. I have a pretty massive noggin, so I'd have to be able to test them before buying and I don't know any place that has them out. It's rarely an issue for me, and I bought them for running where it's never an issue, but I'm just throwing it out there as a consideration for people that haven't used them before.
Last time I was in Sam's they had a display out with both sizes to try on. This was a few months ago so I guess ymmv but worth a shot stopping by and checking if you're interested.

Yeah... I was wrong about them being behind glass. Or maybe they used to be, but they had some out now and I was able to try the mini. If I'm buying the OpenRuns again, I'll probably get the mini. But right now I'm lusting after the OpenSwim Pros.
