These bikes are heavy but incredibly well built and my 6yo has been riding one since 5yo without issues, no problems with the weight and it's been great. It was an upgrade from his 16" bike (or 14", can't remember) first bike. The chain guard is a great feature. Bikes pretty bullet proof. I'd buy again. His next bike will be a 20" and lighter with freewheel, but this is a really great bike until then and his little brother will definitely enjoy it as well.

These bikes are heavy but incredibly well built and my 6yo has been riding one since 5yo without issues, no problems with the weight and it's been great. It was an upgrade from his 16" bike (or 14", can't remember) first bike. The chain guard is a great feature. Bikes pretty bullet proof. I'd buy again. For god knows what reason, the small (sub-18") size with no front suspension uses a steel, black-painted bell that works great, and these larger sizes use blue/red anodized aluminum bell that doesn't work worth a crap (because aluminum is a TERRIBLE) choice for a bell). Just FYI.

Also, suspension on a bike like this is complete nonsense and makes these bikes (as others have mentioned) extremely heavy. Both our kids love theirs though.

I concur. My son just turned 5 years old and is 50 lbs. He absolutely loves it. It's super solid and one of the few purchases I've made lately that I still feel really good about. Disc brake and suspension are honestly not necessary, but the kid loves bouncing on the suspension and thinks the brake is cool, so I am happy. Bell and kickstand being included saves you $10 on aftermarket stuff also.

My son is like 4'4" 4'5" and 9 years old and around 60lbs. Looks like this is rated for 5-10 years old and 3'9"-4'9". I don't see a weight req. Should I just get something bigger?

If my 5 my was 2 I would do this. The huffy we got her at 2 was 75+ and utter garbage.

Up to you of course, but I'm a firm believer the first bike should be a balance bike for learning. Not saying you couldn't get that for once he has his balance down, but just a thought.

I know the 14" comes with training wheels, but I'm looking to add training to the 18".

If the kid is ready for 18inch bike, I strongly suggest going without training wheels. First teach them how to balance using their legs and not to fall down. Once they master that it will be really quick for them to start walking using the bike and eventually bicycling on their own.

Don't do training wheels. If you must do, get a balance bike instead.
Training wheels are one of those things people think will be useful, it actually works opposite.
I have the 14-in and 18 inch bike, I use a training wheel for exactly half an hour before I find out how useless it is in teaching kids how to bike.

hmm, not sure when was the last bike you installed the training wheel on, but it is pretty much fool proof for the bike that designed with training wheels.
and yes, it can wobble, but the degree of wobble is simply not sufficient for child to learn how to lean and turn in low speed, and next thing you know they depend on it.

this is one of those things that is designed by people who already knows how to ride a bike and forget how it was when they first start learning the bike.
