The M12 stick transfer pump (or the M18 version that will come out in 5 months) would work better in these situations.

Draining hot water heater on the other hand can't be done by the stick transfer pump so this would be a better tool.
I'll stick with this, 2 birds one stone

I also don't have any m12

Not in my area, They quit about a year ago. The policy is that you have to return all or none if it was part of a promotion.
I don't understand. This is a Home Depot corporate policy. It's not area specific. Your HD manager is just misinformed. Go to another HD.

I prefer this pump m18. You also don't have to be holding it. You can leave and have it drain out by itself. Unlike the stick, you have to hold it and wait the whole time unless you want to risk it falling inside the water while it's unattended.

That's true. Or have it deliver to your house. I order it and contact customer support and they cancel the battery with out no problems nor any questions were asked.

I bought this a while ago because I have a red addiction. Used it to drain the kids pool inflatables quickly. Great tool but probably not worth it for me. Things a great price though

I currently have the ryobi dual power transfer pump. Anybody used both and be able to tell if it is worth the "upgrade"? This one is battery power only while the ryobi one is dual power.

Damn, you used to be able to do different pickup locations and not pick one up but I guess they stopped that too

Still bought one
Just did it ordered in 2 different locations. And just pick up the one you want. They will refund you for item not picked up at hacked price.

Fantastic if you have a pool and need to winterize or get the pool ready in spring, any need to drain water this makes life quite simple

I have the M12 stick version and love it. Especially for the pool cover
As general pool owner advice: Use a siphon. It's free. Best way to remove nasty stuff from your pool without it needing to go through your pool pump. If you have an above-ground pool, or an in ground pool with a hill that dips below the level you want to drain the pool to - using a hose to siphon water is among the fastest ways to can drain water (if you want it to be).

Using a typical 1.5" pool hose will also usually suck a great deal of leaves and debris out with the water. You can direct a longer hose to have it let out in a safe spot and onto something that won't erode. Don't just let it run full bore right down a hill. Don't ask how I know, just trust the wisdom 👍

They may leave it to the location's discretion, to a degree. They have a policy, but if they can demonstrate store(s) are losing a significant portion of revenue (a form of inventory 'shrink' or avoidable losses) sending stuff back and forth as people 'take advantage of the system', or someone is doing it excessively... it's hard to argue they shouldn't consider shutting it down in one way or another. Every time they take physically take the items back as a return, that's a swapped or stolen item if not opened/inspected..

Their system does enable/allow it, and account for it by itemizing the discounts per item, and they apparently haven't sent out any company-wide 'Memo' to deny these partial returns.. so it's hard to really say one way or the other. Just a little 'insider trick' to use on right right occasion that we're all hoping isn't abused so much that they kill it.

I definitely spend more @ Home Depot overall because it is possible (and it's not all low-margin Milwaukee deals), they're coming out ahead for sure. Profit margin on MSRP is pretty significant, I'm not sorry I bite occasionally.

I don't understand, why not just use the drain on the water heater? What am I missing? 🤔
Gravity draining a water heater can take hours. This can do it in 10 minutes or so.

The stick can be hacked for $104 right now. It's 9gpm vs 8gpm for this one, interesting. It looks like the inlet isn't removable? That's a bummer.
