25+ years ago, Hunter fans used to be some of the better ones you could get. These are trash and not even DC motors. It's sad that no one makes a solid DC fan with good HA integration and without a terrible bolted-on downlight.

Did not have good experience with these fans. Bought two, returned one after a year. The one returned, had to have remote replaced and then started making terrible noise. One that I still have produces very low airflow.

I bought the Rapidan fan last time for $99 unfortunately. It has a low hum anytime the fan is running. Drives me crazy! You can even hear it on high speed. I would definitely Pass on this one!

Most fans in my house are those old Hunters. These Costco fans are a waste if they're not DC at this point. I've only replaced outdoor and bonus/gameroom fans so far with DC - and totally worth it. Been waiting for a good DC deal that doesn't look like ass for the remaining matched indoor fans.

I settled on controlling my old fans with Zooz two relay wall switches. Nice single gang size switch with two buttons -one controls the light dimmer function and the other is simple on/off for the fan. Got rid of a lot of extra toggle switches, more room in the junction box, and decora blanks don't look bad. Easily integrates into HA.

I ultimately chose the Zooz wall switches for a couple of main reasons, to update old toggles to paddles, and to cut down on the number of switches in the rooms. I mostly had 3 gang boxes with individual light, fan, and switched outlet controls. I did away with all of that and now have a simple single switch.

There is also Bond bridge, a fan RF hub out there that you can basically universal remote style program all the DC fan remotes to, and they also can easily integrate to HA.

These are NOT DC motors

Almost got one a while back because they have the DC motor "look" which I found out is more common recently.

Hunters used to be quiet, but I guess times have changed..
I have 2 I installed a couple months back. They are extreamly quite. Other than looking at them you wouldnt know they were running. I thought this was a great deal especially with the remote. The only issue I encoutered was if you hook up the second wire for an additional switch for the fan to be on its own switch the controller gets very confused I went back to one wire and the fans worked properly.

I use a Zooz ZEN30 with a bathroom exhaust fan. Combined with a humidity sensor, it triggers when someone is taking a shower. Very handy.

I have a Harbor Breeze DC fan that I control through Home Assistant using a Broadlink RM4 pro (similar to Bond, but cheaper). It works great!

My RM4 pro is actually on a floor lower and in the opposite end of the house from the ceiling fan it's controlling, but works like a charm.

I also use the RM4 pro to control some IR devices in my living room. It's a nice multi-use device.

I want to get some more DC fans for other rooms, but the problem I run into is confirming what frequency each fan uses for their remote. The RM4 pro has a pretty narrow frequency range it can work with, and the only real way of finding out the frequency a fan uses, is to look at user review photos of the back of the remote (which rarely happens).

I have two of these. They are the easiest to install. Fan controller is built in. LED light is one assembly that you plug in. Fan blades press into the their posts with ease and simplicity. On high mode this moves a lot of air but produces a lot of wind noise. On the lowest setting it's very quiet. You might be able to hear a slightly audible hum but it didn't bother me. BTW, I've never came across a completely silent fan, and I've installed plenty.
I second this. Installed 2, 2 months ago. Moves good amount of air. Only noise I hear is wind noise (on higher speeds) no hum or anything so far. Easy reverse with a push of a button on remote. Light is yellowish- white, but is able to brighten up by holding light button on remote. Satisfied with at this price.

Can you recommend any?
As someone who recently moved into a new place and installed a DC fan in every room, I got three brands: Hunter, Reiga, and Big Ass Fans.

I wish I would've installed Big Ass Fans in every room now.

Hunter: Looks great, silent…..messy installation and an annoying, fixed wall button pad.

Reiga: Small and sleek, silent…..doesn't move much air at lower speeds, non-dimmable, bright LED light.

Big Ass Fans Haiku L: Easiest install ever, good remote, moves a ton of air, silent……but expensive.

It's a tough call. For a while I was going with Fanimation but lately their support is nonexistent and their HA integration sucks.
I was contacted by fanimation for a fan I had listed for sale. They bought it and are putting it in their museum. Kind of neat. Was a Volaire.

I wish Big A$$ Fans made affordable residential fans. My favorite fan company by far.

Four Hunter fans installed 23 yrs ago still work like new, just dusty. I'm not sure how reliable they are now.

There are new generation fans at HD & Lowe's with DC motor, quiet, flush mount and with fancy decorative LED lights ranging between $100~$200. They do not have large blades but good enough for medium size rooms.
Are dc motor ones more quiet or what makes them better than ac motors?

We're being forced into the manufacturers strategy of planned obsolescence. They're now counting on the consumer replacing these in ten years because even if the integrated LED fixture is still working in ten years, it will be half as bright as when it was new, and you can't swap out a bulb. (Nobody likes to talk about LED dimming...) I tried to resist this trend but it's pervasive. If you want any of the smart flood lights with cameras and speakers, you have to get the integrated LED lighting, a replaceable bulb is not an option. The cameras themselves will probably won't last that long anyway... gone are they days when a light fixture lasted 30 years.

I would dissuade anyone from buying a ceiling fan with an integrated led. You never know the quality of the led components and they mail fail long time before the fan itself, ar which point you have an entire fixture to replace.

Just get one that uses plain bulbs.
