ADB Appcontrol is probably the easiest solution for people unfamiliar with adb. It provides you with step by step instructions and a GUI, so you don't have to do everything by command line. https://adbappcontrol.com/en/

Just run the debloat wizard and it'll give you recommendations on what to disable.

Watch out on unintended consequences of this deal! I tried using the steps outlined and had to call to find out why I was ineligible.

I called and they got me the deal but I think i no longer get free Amazon Prime as a long time Metro account holder. They messed with my account to make me eligible and in hindsight I'd rather get Amazon Prime for free than an unneeded tablet for $20.

I ordered plenty the last deal, and I just ordered one earlier this morning that successfully went through. I still had to do the "verify identity" questions, but I used the same credit card and address as last time.
In the last round were you eventually blocked at all?

I use these as my home assistant tablets.

Be warned, these are extremely laggy for some reason. Think galaxy s2 type of laggy. My old nexus 7 is more responsive.

When does the bill cycle start?

Ex. If I want to keep my existing due date (vs prorating it) can I order this and the activate on the cycle start date? Or does it automatically activate after ship?

Doesn't look like it, it's a totally different login. But you can try it to order and see.

How can you work this if you are not a customer - can I walk in, get a phone and get the tablet right there?

Best to avoid going into the store. They charge an extra activation fee of $25 (listed on the site) , and always add on extra insurance, try to upsell cases Etc. Almost anyone that went in has a terrible experience.
Online if you order a phone you need to wait until it arrives so you can activate it and set up your account, before ordering a tablet. If you do choose to go into a store I do not know how that works.

I signed up with ESIM online with the $40 plan. There is a $35 plan, but I didn't want to take my chances.

Long time customer. Somehow ineligible. No reason given, but prompted to call for the reason, but too much trouble at this point.

Maybe because these have tiny RAM.
