I like how they just decided to charge an extra $100 over the RV plan for boats.
Extra $100 and the boat plan is capped at 50GB whereas RV is unlimited.
I suppose people with large enough boats to utilize this don't care about cost.

In for one. Perfect for the RV setup - and will test out at home to see if I can get away with this over the internet I pay for now. Funny how Tesla/SpaceX threads turn into Elon love/hate fests. This is a cool product, and if direct-to-cell gets there some day, great - I will just use that. Who knows when/if that will happen, and what kind of BS will go along with it.

Thanks OP.

I've been watching marketplace for a cheap starlink setup as a backup or when we go camping....this is really tempting.

From what I remember reading, it's best to fire up the dish ever month or two to update it....there was also a reddit post somewhere about someone powering the mini dish off of DC from an ecoflow battery that seems just about perfect for if power and cell went down
I could be mistaken, but turning it on just to update would incur the full month charge.

what about those who want to get rid of their cable provider who charges for internet as much as their bundles used to cost? this worth it? I get fiber optic for $77 with reliable connection, but woudl still love to dump my cable provider..
I also hate every cable provider I've ever had to deal with. If my cable provider wasn't messing with my bill every month and the service was reliable, then I would stay on cable instead of going to Starlink. I moved out in the country, so Starlink is my best option. I've only had Starlink for a month, but I've been getting 100-300 mbs download speeds reliably. I'm able to play online games, but there are lag spikes when Starlink switches to a new satellite. I'm guessing this happens every 5 to 10 minutes, and the lag last about 1-2 seconds. This isn't a problem for a game like Diablo 4, but I'm sure it would quickly annoy me if I was playing a fast-paced competitive shooter on Starlink.

Going with Roam Mobile Regional, and will only activate when we have RV travel plans. If it is good enough to replace my home internet (I have doubts), I will just activate it full time.

Thanks for posting! Home Depot has the same deal. I just bought on Thursday and set up. They were able to do a retro price match and refund me the 200 difference!

Service has been great so far. Speeds anywhere from 100-200 Mbps. Coming from Verizon 4g LTE where there have been a lot of outages recently and capped at 50Mbps.

So you want to spend more and receive less?

We utilize starlink at my office for off-site applications on the roam plan (due to the ability to pause it for a month at a time when not in use, I believe this is the only plan you can pause). We see around 80-120 down and 10-15 up on regular data (this can drop in half during rain/heavy overcasts), then around 100-150 down and 15-25 up on priority data. We have the flat in motion dish, if you want to use it going faster than 10 MPH, you have to enable priority data, otherwise it will shut off data until you are under that speed or no longer moving.

Priority data is $2 per GB used, regular data is "unlimited". Plans are month to month, so if they decide to change the price or features you're getting, be ready to accept that change the following billing period.

Overall, I'd say the service has been fairly solid when we needed it, only struggling to stay connected once or twice during fairly bad thunderstorms.

Edit - just wanted to add, priority data can be flipped on/off in the app pretty quickly, takes up to 15 minutes for it to enable or disable once you do.

You're going to want to use AST Space Mobile in the next year or two, which will be direct-to-cell phone Sat service with no extra equipment required like this, for an extra few bucks a month from your mobile provider. It will supplement your cell provider's service and fill all coverage gaps with seamless connection handoffs from towers to satellites etc. Faster connection, better coverage (after the full satellite constellation is up there will be worldwide coverage, outside and inside buildings), more reliable, already has AT&T and Verizon in the US as partners, 40+ worldwide partners with initial agreements.

They are on track to launch the first 5 production satellites in the next month from what I see. This 2 years after launching their test sat. They need 100~ production sats to cover the US. Initially that coverage will max out at 15MBs down (not sure on up, imagine that is the achilles heel of this regardless of who is providing sat to cell). Given the costs, services etc it's unlikely this will be a relevant thing for at LEAST 3 years.

Meanwhile if you live in a rural area and are on hughesnet or something similar, Starlink for 2-3 years (even if you are right about AST which I doubt) is def. worth 300 in equipment costs lol.

Is this really v4, it appears to be what I thought was v3. It has a seperate router in the pictures, the new Starlink Mini has the router built in, did I miss a revision or a new dishy?
