Well, damn. I just bought one of these open box for $180. Now they are new for less than that. Most of you clicking on this probably already know what this is, but here's some context.

Roland made a legendary synthesizer in the 80s called a TB-303 that gave way to acid music of the 90s (characterized by the squelchy bass lines of the 303 often with a 606, 808, or 909 drum machine). Then Behringer released a faithful rendition called the TD-3.

Serious acid players would send their Roland TB-303s to Australia and pay hundreds of dollars to have them "Devil Fish" modded to add features. This is Behringer's rendition of a Devil Fish.

I got the un-modded TD-3 for $89 new a couple years back, and that was the best deal. This at $169 is still a great deal. You can find it in the more true to original silver too if you prefer. Black is also available.

It is sort of complex, but also stupid easy to make a good sound. A lot of the appeal of the 303s are that they are so asinine to program that you just mash buttons until you see what it did. I guarantee some of the greatest acid bass lines were accidents.

Unlike the original, you can also hook a USB cord to it and graphically arrange sequences. It's a decent first synth, but it's very limited to that classic sound.

Honestly stay away from the sale. While Behringer makse a lot of good stuff at great prices, there is better sfuff to learn on.

After making a number of missteps of my own, here is what I found is the easiest entry point into the world of synths. Many hardware synths are purpose built so the best route is to get a soft synth and a controller (a keybed that just connects to the PC and does not make sound on its own).

1. Get a aurturia keylab essential or minilab
2. Once in their ecosystem you will get a crossgrade offer to get Pigments at a discount. Looks like it is on sale right now if you want to use a different controller.
3. Use the pigments tutorial and you will learn how to do all different typse of synthesis.
4. Really, that is all you need, but once you know the type(s) of synthesis you enjoy most, and learn what the various features are, you will be able to make an informed purchase if you get a hardware synth.

I would also avoid analog synths. While they are nestalgic and can be fun to use, modern digital synths sound better and offer so much more functionality.

Thanks, appreciate the advice!

Already have a couple USB MIDI keyboards. Good tip about learning synthesis with Pigments though, will check that out.

Cardinal Rack is another great choice if you want to get into connecting a bunch of great together to see what makes it tick. It's definitely more on the sound design side of things than quickly getting a track together, but it will teach you synthesis!

Can't this be controlled via midi? I think I ask, if you send midi cc values, especially if your sequencer records cc automation, during playback , won't it like open close envelope ? I have the td3 from a few years ago, and all the controls were physical, there wasn't any way to send and recieve filters accents etc

Great deal. Amazon has the silver still for sale, but I no longer trust their delivery dates if they are more than a few days out, I've been waiting on an IK order since May and they've shown it in stock since

https://www.amazon.com/Behringer-...B09B6SQHXN

edit: Lots of other Behringer discounts or price-drops and deals going on at Sweetwater and BH. Ended up order a Behringer Crave for what may be the new or sale price of $169 and IK Uno Pro Desktop at $199 and canceling my Amazon/IK order. Originally wanted to add the TD3MO and cancel the IK, but decided I don't need a hardware 303 so the Crave+Uno Pro Desktop makes more sense for me as I'll grab a Edge when it goes on sale again.

I totally wish I had time to play with this.
I have the same problem. I tried to get back into electronic music creation, but it is a huge time suck unless that is all you want to do. My problem is I already have a lot of time suck hobbies that I want to do more.

I'd get the Crave over this TD-3 mod also. Seems much more versatile, more control, and an easier better sequencer. Better knobs and build quality.

This is a great deal. I paid full price for mine when it came out, and thought that was a great deal for what it provides.
pretty sure it's the new MSRP. so not a sale, still a good deal.

sadly, none of those are great companies. I'd pick Amazon over most.
