Because the Strand is a strange shoe to begin with: it's an oxford, but it's got a semi-brogue (on the cap toe). Oxford traditionally would mean more formal, while broguing is traditionally for more casual / sportsman shoes. Black is usually seen as more formal. So you've got a formal-casual-formal shoe.

But whatever. Those are the old rules and barely anyone knows them these days. Wear what you like. If you want to wear a semi-brogued Oxford in black, you'll still probably be better dressed than 99% of American men these days, and only weirdo shoe nerds like me would notice that your shoe can't decide if it wants to go to the ballroom or the golf course.

Just don't wear it with a tux shake head

The black strand is not ideal imo but that's a pretty slick deal considering I last paid $150 to recraft my walnut strands

Feel like I don't see people wearing black anymore, granted I moved from nyc to south Florida.

Well explained. I care less about the oxford/brogue, but the black does not work with this, in my opinion. I do have these in walnut, and they are great with jeans/khakis and a jacket.
That said, at this price, they will do nicely for my kids, who have to wear "dress blacks" for recitals.

Good explanation. I had a flashback to "Oxfords, not Brogues" from the Kingsman movie.

How difficult is to paint it in walnut? I think it should not be much of an issue.

Black dye sounds like a pita to bleach. You'll probably end up with a very dark walnut. Which I guess would be better than black.

Wouldn't be that hard to make these black shoes look more informal so that you could wear them with dark jeans or something and not look weird.. Lol for 99% of people, shiny shoes = formal. So all one would need to do is put polish on these to make them matte, then just don't polish it out haha.

Ditto - i actually own these and everytime i wear it i think i shouldve gotten these in a walnut/brown. But eff it i went the atypical route instead of the conventional black park aves/fifth aves. It surprisingly works for a business casual look - with a black polish it always gets a glance or two Can people even see the strand design from a distance? I like to think they do.
