My wife had 6 months of Unlimited Lyca plan. They blocked her from calling for two of those months because they claimed she made too many phone calls (data still worked, though).

When she wanted to port out after the six months, they gave her a very hard time obtaining her pin: Hours of runaround and waiting in their phone system. When she finally reached a live person, she had to go through 30 mins of dodging and attempts to dissuade her before finally getting her pin.

This was in late spring 2024, so fairly recent.

$49 a month is wayyyy too much nowadays. BYOD plans can be had for like $25 or less for 30gb (boost, mint, redpocket, visible).

What does "unlimited" mean if there's a data cap? Borderline useless dial-up speeds thereafter?

I don't know how Lyca is in the States, but I tried to use them in Europe once and the were the worst MVNO I've experienced by far. And I've experienced some very crappy MVNOs while traveling extensively.

Tempting but I would probably forget to transfer and pay $49.99 just ruining it. Tello is $11, for 100 min and 5GB data which is good enough for me. Never saw the value in unlimited data.

I read the terms no info about the price for the next month, any friends saw the rules?
The advertisement of the promo is for 6 months. I just purchased the $12.25 plan and ported my number in. However, I don't see the price for next renewal after setting up my online account. I used PayPal to make the first payment, but it's not showing up in payment history either. It seems that Auto-renewal is automatically set to ON, but I don't see PayPal as one of the payment method. Does anyone have experience with Lyca Mobile auto-renewal? Can PayPal be used, or we must add a credit/debit card as payment method for this to work? Thanks a lot!

Lyca blows and gets deprioritized super hard. 4G service was unusable for me most places and times. Also I wouldn't transfer your number there. But it's wicked cheap if it works for you.
how is Lyca compare to US Mobile?

Which MVNO has the best speed using TM network?

Anyone know if this can be used in a cell modem as a back up option for my cable modem? There are cheap cell modems available now, and my local ISP is a little flaky, so this would be a helpful option for me.

Thanks for sharing your experience re: porting out! Spending hours on the phone is something I definitely want to avoid!

Beware of LYCA !! Almost non existent support. I spent hours just trying cancel the service so that I wouldn't be billed after the trial period. Not worth it !!

Wait, can't you cancel (or remove your autopay details) online?

I just signed up for this for my visiting family member. In the online portal, you can easily remove your payment card details as well as disable the auto-renewal. To be extra safe, I had used a virtual card from Privacy.com which I will disable immediately after the 5th renewal.

I want to echo this. I transferred a number there and could NOT get it out. I meant to file a complaining with FCC, but haven't gotten around to it yet. They did promise to extend my plan for an extra month for all the hassle they gave me. But they didn't extend it. Being on the phone with them was so painful that I gave up (as I use Google Voice and so this wasn't my main number). Also, I frequently had cases where the phone would just stop connecting and would not work for phone calls (incoming or outgoing) or data. When I noticed, I would have to reboot to get it working (but in the meantime, I wouldn't be able to get calls).
