I'm going to get roasted for this but I really love that saving $0.18 on a can of baby clams delivered to your doorstep has made front page status.

Asking out of sincere curiosity, what do people do with these besides making the obvious chowda?

Amazon rarely has it in stock at this price. The $0.18 is just an added bonus.

If you compare it to everyday prices elsewhere, Snow's canned clams are $2.59 at Target, but those are chopped clams and a 1/3 smaller can.

Another deal where the coupon only applies to one can. I'm not criticizing the poster — I'm just criticizing this marketing practice which makes no sense because the shipping cost for the single 86 cent can has to be several times more than the cost of the product itself. I'd be happy to buy 4 or 5 cans at the coupon price and that would make more sense for the seller/shipper too.

10% off coupon applies to pack of 12, but the pack of 12 is twice the price. Definitely no sense involved in this marketing plot unless they are close to expiration and need to be cleared out.

Bought 5 cans with S&S. There was a 12 cent discount resulting from the 10% off coupon, which apparently applied to only 1 can.

$3.19 a can in the local supermarket by me. So $1.15 a can is a steal

Snow's is owned by Bumblebee so it's actually the same company making Snow's canned clams.

Just bought five 10oz cans for $5.75 without a coupon or a subscription. This alone is a very slick deal and about half of Walmart's price.

Reports of shells and sand in the reviews. Also reports of sour clams and not fresh, ocean tasing. I prefer my clams without sand and a sour taste vomitlaugh out loud

The review that mentioned "Great product, but might contain shells and sand" provided a 4-star review:

As an avid seafood enthusiast, I've recently had the pleasure of sampling Bumble Bee Whole Baby Canned Clams, and I must say, they've left quite the impression. Whether you're a seasoned connoisseur or a newcomer to the world of canned seafood, these clams offer a delectable taste of the ocean's bounty in a convenient package.

One of the first things that struck me about these clams is their freshness. Despite being canned, they maintain a remarkable flavor and texture that closely resembles freshly harvested clams. The whole baby clams are tender yet firm, with a satisfying bite that speaks to their quality.

The convenience factor cannot be overstated. With Bumble Bee's easy-to-open can design, enjoying these clams is a hassle-free experience. Whether you're preparing a quick pasta dish, a flavorful seafood chowder, or a refreshing seafood salad, these clams add a delightful oceanic touch without the need for extensive preparation.

What truly sets Bumble Bee Whole Baby Canned Clams apart is their versatility. They lend themselves well to a variety of culinary creations, from classic clam linguine to innovative seafood appetizers. Their mild, briny flavor complements a wide range of ingredients, allowing for endless experimentation in the kitchen.
A few reviews (maybe 5 out of 828) mention sand or shells, while other reviews mention no sand. It's not uncommon, though annoying, for any clam or mussel dish--canned or fresh--to have sand or shells. Google methods to help wash out sand from the clams.

There was one review that said it tasted sour. One of the ingredients is citric acid, a common preservative. Another additive, disodium pyrophosphate, is commonly added to seafood to maintain texture (plumpness and water retention), though for some it adds an undesired texture to seafood, especially fish and other shellfish and makes them harder to fry properly.

As mentioned by a previous SDer (junkbanana), if you order 5, and select slower shipping, you get a $3 Amazon digital credit, making the effective price less than 50 cents/can.
