90% of morons on this thread will ruin the deal by asking dumb questions to Best Buy and possibly altering them to check trade in phone in details. Just keep your mouth shut when you go there to pick up the phone

Will pick up the phone in 3 days (not in the US right now), so tax should be on the trade-in value not the pixel phone? Currently on my preorder tax is at $90 for pro xl
Yes … tax should be adjusted down, although the exact amount may vary by state, etc. Some will pay no tax at all and some may pay tax on the base trade value ($149 for an iP 12). (This is for trades that are done at the store anyway … not sure about trades that are mailed in.)

Here is my story.
I pre-ordered P9 online with iPhone 12 trade in on 8/14. Today I went to pick up, when its time for trade in, the screen shows $145 instead of $799. I asked them, they claim that's the value I am getting. I then ask them to research, show them the email. They insist that I am getting $145. They said they needed to cancel my online order and re-purchase it in-store to get $799. I told them to do the in-store purchase before cancelling my online order to make sure I am getting the $799 trade-in value. Of cuz they cannot get me the $799 as it is no longer in their system. And they told me they have cancelled my original trade-in. I am so pissed. I then came home and contact the online support, They told me my order is still intact, trade-in is still valid. I guess I have to go back to the store again to pick up my phone. I should have come here to read others' story before picking up. Clueless rep in the store is really useless, even the manager is clueless how the trade-in promotion works. I hope they didn't really cancel my original trade-in, otherwise I will file complaint to BBB.
Just let then process the order. The system will pickup everything. Dont worry about the trade-in value.

Picked up my Pixel 9 Pro XL an hour ago from local BestBuy. It was a trade-in with almost new ATT locked S23+ (which failed unlock after many attempts over the last 2 months), and was paid using my credit card and about $167 of gift cards. It seems the initial full charge on my credit card has disappeared and the gift cards were more than enough to pay for the remaining amount after trade-in:

Quote :
Order Summary
Product Total:
$410.00
Sales Tax, Fees & Surcharges:
$33.83
Taxes have been updated
Trade-In Device
-$310.00
Order Total
$133.83
And with the $200 bestbuy gift card promo, I actually made a profilt of $66.17 on top of a free UNLOCKED new flagship phone.

The phone feels as good or even slightly better than S23+. I also have a Pixel 7 which stuggles with scanning bar codes and signal issues. This Pixel 9 Pro XL is on a whole another level, getting full signal strength, way better barcode scanning camera and really good and fast ultrasonic fingerprint scanner, even better than S23+. Only gripe is the really thick camera bump; not a fan of the bump.

Not strictly true as you havent taken into account thew value of the s23+.

For me a TRUE cost is: Traded in a metro by tmobile phone costing $192 for a pixel 9 and total was zero (hence it would have cost me $192) but then i have a $100 gift card so my true cost was $92 for a $799+tax phone

I got the S23+ via a slickdeal posted couple of months back, and I paid $433 including taxes, paid using gift cards (bought/collected over time, using amazon credit card promos, saving roughly 30-50% on the gift card values). Since my numerous attempts to unlock failed, and ATT's data basically sucked and was almost unusable most of the times during congestion (and when I needed to use phone internet) even when I was paying $65+ per month. Hence I was really stuck with a expensive wifi device, needing to carry second phone with active Verizon service which always has internet working even when the signal bar drops to 1 or 2.

S23+ itself wasn't bad, and was actually a pretty good value to me, unlike ATT service which I was stuck with for 3 months, paying almost $210 total, now that was the pain point. Overall, really happy with the Pixel 9 deal. I was almost ready to get rid of the s23+ for anything more than $300. Thankfully this Pixel deal showed up.

Anyone have this particular problem:

My best buy apparently employees people willing to do the most basic and refuse to use common sense.

I placed my preorder with a 13 Pro Max trade in. At the time of the order, I could not select "T-Mobile 128GB". At the advice of many in this thread, I proceeded forward with what it defaulted to which was Verizon 1TB.

Upon pickup today, the employees are saying they cannot process because it "does not match" and are unwilling to move forward.

For those that have had success with my situation how did best buy proceed? They've verified my phone qualifies for the "$390" trade in value but that's all they want to give me sans the promotional credit. They are quick to suggest, canceling and just buying in store which I am reluctant to do

As far as I know, you don't even need to activate the metro iPhone, it will Auto deactivate after the month you already paid

Just picked up my pixel 9 today looking at my credit card transaction I realized that Best Buy never charged my card prior to pick up therefore no refund is needed. I got the phone completely free. Not sure if this is a single error or anyone else have similar situation because it was clearly stated on the app that full amount will be charged until pick up. But my card was never charged.
It might depend on CC company but on mine it was as pending charge and was removed completely upon pick up. Yes the register screen was showing $145 as refund initially but I already knew that doesn't mean much and waited until I got receipt after check out which essentially removed any BB charges from CC since amounts were equal (ip12->pixel9), looking at some of the comments it seems some screwed up this deal for themselves by either trying to discount initial cost or freaking out over only $145 shown on checkout screen so hopefully it will be a good experience to learn from.
If you do order online the positive thing is that you have to bring trade in at the time of pick up so as long as you have original invoice printout with promised amounts if after checking out it doesn't get processed properly you can go back in and at least get your trade in back as well as cancel the whole thing for a refund. If you do trade in beforehand and pick up new device at later date the trade in device will be long gone without any way of getting it back.

I've never done a best buy trade in. I know minor scratches are fine. Even deep small scratches are fine.... But what about a small chip on the screen corner?

See picture

I need to send this in since I couldn't process for in store pickup, so that's why I'm a bit skeptical.
