This is a particularly nice deal if you have a "By the Gig" plan with no cost to add a line. Port a phone number and get a free Pixel 9 after bill credits (just need to pay taxes and $25 setup charge). Was planning to add my brother in law to our grandfathered 10 GB plan and wanted to get him a new phone. Asked the the friendly rep in store last week if there were any specials coming up and he said the Pixel 9 was going to be free at launch (no trade in required).

I assume this will be locked to xfinity?

says 82$ taxes +$25 line setup fee and 6.56 a month for the plan. - locked for 24 months!

it is dual sim can I not install another sim on the phone?

It will be locked until the phone is paid off, but you can't pay it off early without losing the deal / bill credits.

If you are a Comcast customer I would be very careful about using Xfinity Mobile. I just experienced identity theft because Comcast/Xfinity has one password that accesses all of their accounts: email, finance account, mobile, cable, internet. A hacker got into my email, got into my Xfinity Mobile and then added a phone to my plan and then switched my primary phone with their newly added phone. Comcast/Xfinity did not do any kind of check to see whether this was suspicious and didn't call the phone that was hacked to confirm the user had control of both phones. With control of my phone, they defeated 2-factor authorization and nearly wiped out all of my bank accounts (I was on top of it and locked them when I saw my phone was hacked). If you have experienced this as well, please contact me. I am suing Comcast over this.

This is a great deal... why no upvotes?
If you are already using Xfinity mobile by the gig plan... you can just add a new line to it and get a free phone. I recently got $600 off of any iphone 15 and changed to it a month back. Else I would jump on this offer.

Warmish deal if you want to play with the newest Pixel at minimum out of pocket but for me, shelling out $200+ for a device that's only usable with XM for 2 years not to mentioned having shackled to Xfinity for that duration.

Does the Pixel 9 need to stay on the new line to keep the promotional pricing? I'm on a by the gig plan with 3 lines already, and wondering if I can add 2 new lines with free Pixel 9s, then use them on 2 of our existing lines. The 2 new lines would just sit unused for 2 years.

Yes that should work but keep in mind you'll still pay the monthly taxes for those extra unused lines.

why not close 2 of the 3 current lines? or are they still within an old 2 year device contract?

Edit:
oh duh.. i just realized that was a stupid question as you still would want to use your old phone #s EmbarrassmentEmbarrassment

Great, thanks... still thinking about hanging onto my S20+ for another year since it's great other than the battery life...

Can I add a new line with a pixel 9 and then swap the sim with my pixel 5, so my old number is on the new phone???

It'll most likely come with eSIM so no easy swap like before. But you can add a SIM from an existing XM phone/line to your new phone so it has two numbers (old and new). Putting the new number (eSIM) on another phone is super YMMV.

Unless they've yet again changed things...

That was my experience when I added a new line to get an iphone 15 (dual esim) back when there was a deal around Black Friday. Transferring the old # into the new phone was a breeze. Did not have a great way to get the new dummy line # off and onto another device. So now that new iphone 15 has both #s attached to it, just don't use the new one.

While you have to pay the couple bucks a month for that extra line, it put us above the threshold (5 lines?) to where the basic unlimited data (20Gb) was only $20/month instead of $30. And premier (50Gb + faster speeds) is $30. So in that way it did end up making things cheaper for me even keeping the extra line that I don't use.
