I would not recommend that. These fans are made for light duty use (smaller windings, cheaper components, plastic, need to be cleaned, etc.). A fan that is made for an attic will be rated as such. They are engineered with long service intervals in mind (typically beefier assembly that is more dust resistant so you don't have to clean it as often, better bearings for many more years of service, all metal construction to resist heat and degradation).
A plastic fan (especially a cheap one) will only last so long in the heat of an attic. The motor will eventually lock up and and will lead to overheating that can possibly start a fire.

A lot of attic fans will come with a thermostat (they are also relatively cheap on their own) that turns off the fan on a regular basis.

Most people that put a regular house fan in the attic are not going to think to turn off the fan on their own. House fans are also not meant to be hard wired in, so most people will probably use an extension cord (which can also be a fire hazard in the future while laying in the insulation).
Besides the fire hazard. Long run times contributes to the electric bill in several ways. Fan wattage consumption is a small part. Depending on how badly your house is insulated, a fan running continuously through the night causes the attic to cool down faster. This can lead to humidity problems as it draws in cool/moist air that is absorbed into the insulation causing musty smells and mold. It can also remove the air barrier that a warm attic provides on chilly nights. As the delta between the indoor and outdoor temperatures broaden, your HVAC system works harder to keep the house in line, causing your bill to go higher.

All that is a long winded way to say that if you want to get a fan for your attic. Get the proper fan and controls.

This fan cannot be angled down at all, which I have wanted several times. So, keep this in mind.

Doesn't move air and loud AF. Left it outside for some poor soul who needs it more than me...but the noise still haunts me.

We have 3 of these Honeywell fans around the house. The oldest is at least 20 years old and it's still running. They're not quiet fans, even on low speed, but they blow a pretty decent stream of air for the size of the fan. I have to disassemble the motor on the oldest one about once a year to add 3-in-1 oil to the bushings but it runs fine after that.

I use this in the bedroom for a nice indirect breeze when sleeping. It has a physical on/off switch which makes it compatible with using a smart plug. I have mine set from 10pm-6am, 7 days a week.

have several of these fans from over the years. depending on how much you use them (2 or 3 hours a day or 24/7) will determine how long they last. usually after a while they start to rattle in the motor. thats when i usually pass them on or scrap for parts, like a cord.

Thanks, just canceled my order. Sounds like I have more research to do as a new homeowner. I was planning on just plopping it in next to an outlet with a smart plug, but a real attic fan sounds better if that's what I even need.

This right here. We've been through several in kids rooms at night and keep having to replace because of the constant rattling.

This fan is alright. Worth it at this price point. On high, you can barely feel it 20ft away.

How do they stack up against Vornado?
Can't even compare … they're from two different worlds … this one is cheap … NOT "turbo" by ANY means and is loud for the amount of air NOT being moved. I've owned two of them. They were the only choice in a pinch so I had no other option. On the other had I've had two vornados and I was super impressed with them and how well they work … kinda loud on the highest setting but also does a hell of a job especially considering its size. They are quality built and efficient… worth the extra $ ANY day..

I'm a fan of the Woozoo globe fans. Same type of Vornado power but very compact and only audible at the highest setting. They go on sale at Costco for $35 often. Especially after summer.

Yeah I'm waiting for some vornado deals coming on. Once you buy a vornado you never buy another fan again

Came here to let everyone know these fans, IMO, are awesome.

I bought like 6 of them 6+ years ago (what a coincidence lol).

1/6 went bad, like completely died.

The other 5/6 have been going strong, all around my house in living spaces... I've got 1 as a TOWEL DRYER! (I laid it facing up under my towels, on a wifi switch, on a timer, to turn on at 2AM and 12PM everyday - Which is a few hours from my wife and i's shower time).

I've since replaced that (1) bad fan, and haven't really been disappointed since! Just make sure to open it up once a year, clean all the dust and debris, and relube the bearings (takes 5 minutes each fan). I let these suckers go on for (I believe) 2-3+ years before i serviced them, and even THEN? I didn't need to.... Just wanted to complete maintanence on them so they last forever.

EDIT: Forgot to mention, they do get FAIRLY noisy...

but I think the $10 HD Vornado deal? That thing is louder than this, and it doesn't move anywhere near as much air IMO. (I still have the other Vornado BNIB)
