Please note that as of August 19th, PLUS members only get free shipping on orders over $50.00! $8.00 shipping fee for any order under $50.00. There are other "perks" still available such as 2% Sam's Cashback, and supposed prescription and eyeglass discounts.

For me the $50.00 minimum order size is a deal breaker.

Also be careful now..I ordered a item and paid shipping. It was defective and I returned it in store like always. New policy..system does not refund shipping charges.

To add to that the 2% cash back is only valid in store. It cannot be on sams.com. Curbside orders and scan and go are valid though.

I think generally thanksgiving deals are better at Costco. Also, furniture and appliances deals are better at Costco. Quality of their in-house brand is very good. And their return policy is very generous. There are a lot of things to like about Costco in terms of prices. That's being said — they are ridiculously behind Sam's in upgrading their digital systems. You have to give credit to Sam's where it's due. Also, Costco has unfortunately become the victim of its own success. Going to the store is half a day's job (especially on a weekend). You like the savings and the perks but you have to contend with having to navigate your cart through crazily congested aisles. And ridiculously long checkout lines. And then parking. And all this while your kids are getting more and more antsy cause of the time it's taking. In the end, the best approach is to keep Costco membership for the big ticket items. The $60 annual membership will pay for itself with just one big purchase in the year. But do your regular weekend grocery at Sam's. The $20 annual membership (cause let's face it — you never really have to pay the full $50 fee), pays for itself in just preserving your sanity compared to grocery shopping at Costco.
100% agree!

What if you ordered enough to reach the $50 free shipping, then returned some things, will they charge you shipping afterwards?
I think it'll work. They won't charge you shipping cost when returning in store.

But the problem is that it's not a viable long term strategy. You can do it once or twice. But for every small purchase you can't really keep on buying extra items just to return to store. You still have to go to the store defeating the purpose of enjoying free shipping. Plus you have to waste time in the return line which is a bigger hassle than even checking out the item in store. Finally, most corporations track the number of returns on each account. Who knows what their limit is but eventually you'll run afoul of their internal rules, and you risk getting your account banned.

And if you are thinking of returning extra items by shipping, that may not be free. And even if it is, apart from the excessive return issue, packaging the item and dropping it off is still a hassle.

Plus is not worth it anymore unless you shop in store a lot. $50 minimum for free shipping is a deal breaker.

I cannot say enough positive things about the Sam's Club Plus membership. If I run out of __________, I can have it in two days or so without any minimums or delivery fees. And if you feel good about Sam's Clubs prices, you don't have to even think about third party or marketplace sellers trying to rip you off. Highly recommended!

Ironically, it's as if Sams Club wants all of their members to cancel and never go back again. At some point, they are going to run out of new people to screw. Bulk buying customers are not an infinite resource.

I'm sure they've done their research. And this will be an additional source of data gathering. If it doesn't pan out, they'll just change the minimums in a year.

The fact is that unfortunately for Sam's we've been spoiled by Amazon in having no shipping fee for almost everything (I.e. if you have Prime).. But Amazon runs their own shipping network. Sam's uses FedEx, which must cost them a lot. And they are primarily a retail store. Their online sales won't have the kind of volume to make free shipping possible for them. If they couldn't do it for Plus customers which is a $90 membership and their highest paying clientele,, you can tell they were struggling.

Are you guys going through Sam's Club directly to pay? Use the Groupon page. It worked for me. I paid with Google Pay, then entered a new CC when I signed up at Sam's. I also did the [email protected] trick.

https://www.groupon.com/deals/n-s..._group=afl
did you take the groupon to SC and activate it there? i bought and it didn't ask me for any details.

They are kidding about new members only and within 6 months is not accurate either. I haven't been a member in over 10 years, my wife even longer. It wouldn't work for either of us, it said we didn't qualify because we were previous members. We tried a few different email addresses and even credit cards, no luck.
It took me three tries over two weeks to get a credit from Groupon and it was only a Groupon credit, not my money back. Buyer beware!
i wish i had read your comment sooner. i just bought the groupon after having so much trouble joining from the main site.
