At $200 vs. $300 for the 10th gen, this is probably a better deal. 3 and 4GB of RAM is going to lead to lots of page refreshing when switching between browser tabs or between the browser and another app. A lot of sites that have continuous scrolling or lots of embedded media and javascript will refresh even when not in the background. This gets incredibly annoying. Chrome is almost unusable with 3GB and javascript on. Safari handles it better.
USB-C on the 10th gen is limited to the same data transfer rate as lightning, but you can play videos directly off of a usb c thumb and a player like VLC. The 9th gen needs the camera adapter and the adapter needs to be connected to a charger to use most non-lightning thumb drives and playing media off of a lightning drive is much less straightforward. The M1 Air at $400 is going to hold up a lot longer with double the RAM of the 10th gen and it has a full 10Gbps usb 3.2 interface, so transferring files to and from an external drive can be up to 30 times faster. The matching keyboard folio is dirt cheap used and locks into position, so it's a much more stable stand than the 10th gen's kickstand and floppy Magic Keyboard. It's also compatible with the ipad pro Magic Keyboard, which has a similar stability advantage and allows you to connect a charger and a usb device simultaneously without needing a hub. This is really nice when you need to charge and use wired headphones. On that note, Apple's usb-c headphone adapter is really quite good and is substantially better than the lightning adapter. It has enough power to drive my 250 ohm DT770s to reasonable listening levels, where the lightning adapter can't.
You'll also get 2-3 years more major OS updates with the M1 vs. the 9th gen. It's hard to tell with the 10th gen. It may get dropped sooner than the M1 due to its RAM limitations. The 6th gen with 2GB is getting dropped in 18 while devices with the same CPU and 3GB are getting the update.

You get a lot more for the $50 upgrade to the 10th gen.

10.9 inch screen vs 10.2
Usb-c native
12mp 4k camera vs 8mp 1080p
Surround sound speakers
WiFi 6 vs WiFi 5
Supports new gen Apple Pencil and magic folio.
And of course better processor.

People aren't just on slickdeals for deals but also knowledge sharing and recommendations. Lots of people are on the fence between the models. If I can get 3 more years out of the 10th gen vs 9th gen I say it's well worth the $50.

The 9th gen is from 2021. But obviously get what works with your lifestyle. This is still an awesome price but I'm hoping the 10th gen gets a better price for a little more $$

USB-C vs lightning port is the main reason I would want a newer iOS device... Just one less cable to carry around

Dang I might have to return my Target one and get it from BB as I also have an old iPad Air 2 to trade in.
If you are only getting $30 for it, you should just give it to a friend or family member.

I think you can still use the netflix app. You just have to download from apps you already own, and it will download an older/compatible version.

Thanks for the info. Not worth it then. I have to spend a lot of time unloading the pics for $30.

Waiting to pull the trigger. Can someone please offer advice?

FYI: Costco is limit 2 and they charge $4.99 shipping for each one.
Best Buy is free shipping, even with the basic membership. Unless you need the extended return policy, I would go with BB, and use the $25 off $250 for a case and headphone.

For those of you who are purchasing at Target, and need a case/keyboard combo, I got a great deal on the Logitech Slim folio keyboard from 199 down to 99.99 and then an extra 50% to 49.99.

https://www.target.com/p/logitech...nk=sametab

You will see the final price of 49.99 in the cart. Solid deal and I just snapped it on my fresh 199 iPad 9th gen.
I mean…it's not $200 anywhere. $50 is still a good deal though.

Anyone know how this compares to an iPad Pro 10.5 (2017)?

Might be better to go $2 more with the Typecase brand with lit keyboard and touchpad:

Just pull the trigger at Best Buy, added a case and headphone and came out to $251 before tax. Let's see if I'll get the $25.

64 gig of storage isn't much at all now a days. That's like a couple apps and book your device is full.

The master problem with this iPad is 3GB RAM only. In a year most apps will not work. I considered it and then decided not to buy. It's a gamble.

I don't think that in ONE YEAR most apps will not work. I respect you deciding to getting a newer IPAD product, but this 9th gen will be able to run the majority of apps for at least 4-5 years. Maybe research it. For example, can a 5 year old IPAD or PAD Air not work with most apps? I don't believe that. It is a gamble whatever you buy. I would not gamble that most apps will not work on the ipad 9th gen IN ONE YEAR, and trust me, if that was the case, masses of people would be yelling and screaming and lighting apple buildings on fire! (again, if you don't feel comfortable with this clearance item, spend 100 to 500 dollars more for NEWER Better product. This is my second IPAD 9th gen, I was so impressed with the first one I got 3 months ago , I bought another one TODAY (arriving in a few minutes "out for delivery from Amazon". Peace

it's not a gamble and it's only $200. The vast majority of people who are buying this model will tend to use it for Internet browsing, email, movies and such. It's plenty good for that. Not quite sure why you came on here to TC if you aren't buying it

Just picked one up. Got 5% off with Target Circle Card and another $15 in Target Circle Rewards because I spent a certain amount of money or something (had to activate that deal though and may be YMMV).

People complaining about only 3GB of RAM... well... look at the price....

And if you can get 10th gen for only $50 more, well then post how to do it! I would gladly pay $50 more for 10th gen... but it's not $50 more.....

Where is this $250 10th gen available? Let me know and I'll return the 9th gen for a 10th gen for only $50 more.

Yup! Currently the best price for IPAD 10th gen is 299 dollars (100 dollars more), both come with 64gb storage, and generally the 9th gen was more popular than the 10th gen for a couple of years. But NOW that the ipad 9th gen is clearanced out, it is not currently on Apple's site. And NOW people are liking the IPAD 10th gen as lowest priced IPAD! I personally would not pay 100 dollars more for it. And like you stated if it was 229 dollars today, most of us would probably hop on the 10th gen. The battery life on the IPAD 9th gen is HIGHLY PRAISED from pro reviewers, because of the bigger battery. Next year IPAD 10gen could be 229 dollars.... if the 11th gen came out.
