To upgrade the RAM to 96GB, this person needs to remove a single 32GB SODIMM and install a single 64GB SODIMM. Ever tried to find a single 64GB DDR5 SODIMM? That's at least the $200 difference between the deal price and the custom config, PLUS the person got a 5G WWAN and a battery upgrade. And in the custom case, it's ALL covered in the Lenovo warranty unlike buying your own RAM.

I think @Boofabonk made the right choice to do it through Lenovo. There absolutely isn't any "hefty price" doing it that way compared to adding RAM yourself in this case.

If you do find a SINGLE 64GB DDR5 SODIMM, link it with the price. Since kits are close to $200, I'd say a single module would cost way more.

EDIT: I do see now the 96GB solution is 2x48GB, which on Amazon right now are almost $300 to over $400. @Boofabonk paid $200 more for 5G, 96GB and better battery.

Added the following in a custom build and used a coupon to knock the set up below to $1258

-96GB RAM
-120hz screen
-5G modem
-1TB TLC
-fingerprint reader
-battery upgrade

Amazing deal for a 96GB laptop. I work with large datasets so hoping this pans out. Not too worried about battery life. Never had an AMD before. Only Mac or X1 Nano

I think you ripped yourself off. The RAM on this is upgradeable and is already 64GB. You could have bought this and then upgraded the RAM to 96GB and I think it would have been less than $1258 that you paid customizing one yourself. The only thing that you couldn't add to this deal is the 5G modem, so unless that was a necessity I would say you unnecessarily paid a hefty price.

Also, what coupon did you use? VIP deals, such as this, are never eligible for pre-available coupons.
It's the subscription coupon. So takes off an extra $50 above $1000+ purchases. I don't think I ripped myself off though. I looked at the cost of RAM and it's an extra $200 at the minimum for 2x48 sticks. Modem is an extra $50 so let's say $1100 for 5G on this 64Gb model.

Add in my time to take it apart, put in the new ones, make sure everything is working order and I'm more than happy to pay an extra $150 to not even crack it open and use that time working on something instead. Plus it includes the faster SSD

How big is the battery upgrade from the 52.5Wh in this deal or is the same battery?

I tried to custom build and the 52.5Wh is the largest battery size.

That's the exact same one. So just an upgrade from the smallest one

I tried myself. Pretty nifty how each upgrade has a listed price, but as you click them, the amount added to the total is only a fraction of the price of the upgrade. It's amazing you can add all those options and the price of the laptop increases only about 1/2 of what you'd think! Good Buy!

Not to mention all the parts, in your case, are covered by Lenovo warranty. Also, I have seen some good deals on Lenovo extended warranties.

I'd have to think this G5 has worse battery life than the G4 version it replaced.

G4 has AMD 7840U CPU and LPDDR5X RAM, both of which are more power efficient than this 8840HS and SODIMM memory. Plus 120Hz uses more battery. Battery size is the same between G4 and G5 so does battery life suffer in the G5? I can't see how it's better or even the same.

It seems to me that intel version of this model has better IPS screen, bigger battery options. I wish they do the same to AMD.. Kinda strange if you ask me why they have all these different spec and parts.

Hopefully will see Intel version getting the same discount!

The amd one won't need a bigger battery as the Intel ones suck juice

I JUST bought the other P14 for $849 but you get + this for $200 more:

- OLED Screen vs IPS Screen
- 64GB RAM vs 32GB
- 1TB SSD for BOTH

Worth the extra $200 imo, hmm what to do??

EDIT: $849 config has 1TB SSD as well.
