Bought a 55 in QM7 today. Quick set up. All consoles calibrated. Picture and sound is great. For $497 you can't beat it.

I have the 98" 98QM751G that I got during the last sale. The tv is super bright, I turn it down to 70 even in a well lit room. I have all the motion stuff turned off etc. Works great with the Xbox Series X, and have that connected to 1 of the HDMI 2.1 120hz ports, running sound back to my receiver via EARC. Netflix looks great, and the Olympics were really good. I did not feel the need to go to the 851G series for the nits, this is more than enough for me.

No I can't. Lol. China was monopoly in TV manufacturing!!
ok cool, so we buy China products either way. What's your point? Want people to not buy a TV at all?

How does this compare to the Hisense U7N? They seem very similar, just bought the Hisense at Costco last week for $100 more but with the 5 year Costco warranty.
True, but according to rtings, Hisense U7/U75N would have the edge over QM7 + peace of mind 5years warranty from Costco.

How do these TCLs and Chinese tvs hold up in general? Ended up getting a Samsung 70in from a previous deal cheaper than this but is the quality/reliability good on TCLs?
Not sure what Samsung you bought, but this is going to be better than a Samsung midrange set that I will generically call the Q8 (depending on year there is other numbers and letters mixed in). That TV is much more expensive than this.

As far as longevity goes most TVs at a similar price point will have a similar fail rate, across brands. This is due to using similar components.

Tempting. Only drawbacks are no ATSC 3.0 tuner (only QM8 has it) and the viewing angles could be better.

Lol. That is a wild statement. The G3 is so much better.
How is this wild. This is true for sure.
It is well known that miniled is far brighter than oled more colorful. OLED is truer to life and duller in comparison.

I went to best buy and compared the two and confirmed. I have the 75" qm7 and that thing is bright. I have to tone it down at night. In the day it is maximum and glorious. The colors punch you in the face. It is super duper bright and colorful.

Purchased same, it is a slightly higher rated tv for gaming than even the QM8. I have owned TCL forever and think their higher end tvs are the best deal around but after extensive research and based on the Costco deal I was sold on the U7N. Purchase $849 - free $100 Google play card and free extra 3 yr warranty. Been using it for two weeks and am glad I bought it. Hope that helps!

Edit - you should qualify for the offer - https://hisense-promos.com/platfo...w-it-works

Second edit: This tv has the best sound of any flat panel I have very owned. Great bass and directional sound, I did not bother to hook up my soundbar.

QM8 is glossy while QM7 is semi glossy. QM8 has a reflection score of 9.0 and the QM7 has 7.3 (higher than the Q7's 7.1). Yes it has a lower score, but it seems to be due to the semi gloss treatment. It has the same reflection handling as the QM8 but light sources directly behind the tv have an aura instead of a defined dimmed shape. Both tvs have very high brightness so I doubt ppl will have issues, just try not to have sun blasting through a window behind you, light sources to the side are not a problem per RTINGS
I read the 2024 Qm8 is anti-reflective

Would this be an upgrade over a Sony X900H? The picture is great on my TV but I'd really like to be able to do 4K@120hz with VRR and HDR.

The biggest difference I could see is the ease of returning. Amazon has free returns, but I would worry about shipping it back to get your money back.

This is probably YMMV but if you're a "My Best Buy" member, check your member offers [bestbuy.com] to see if you have any offers that can be applied. I currently have one for a $25 bonus reward with any purchase of $250 or more. I think the TV would be a qualifying purchase. I've covered up my personal info and barcode in this screenshot because I believe it's unique.

If brightness is your sole litmus test

The G3 would have better black levels, better off angle viewing, better shadow detail, better color accuracy, and better color saturation
