Would this integrate at all in any way to save that trouble?
You would replace the switch downstairs and also have a separate wireless pico switch that you can mount anywhere on the wall or inside a wall plate upstairs.
The downside is that you would need the kit that includes the caseta bridge. You can find a kit for about $50 on eBay.
*Edit - If your fan has a remote, you can research products like the Bond Bridge that will allow for a smart connection to the fan using the OP remote.

Does it use normal light bulbs or some kind of special LED light that you cant replace with normal bulbs?
Your path of least resistance if you can use regular bulbs would be something like this and just replace the bulb with a Hue bulb so you can turn off that light from your phone, from a voice assitant, or from this switch.
If its a fully intergrated LED light that you have to kill power too, then this wont work without some kind of hardware that can actually turn off the power.
So a TP Link switch linked here on this thread would work, or if its some kind of switch that you cant replace easily you can install behind the plate a Shelly and have the shelly turn your dumb switch into a smart switch (and then you have the same options, control phone phone, voice command, etc)
Once you have a switch like TP Link or Shelly that can turn off the power (just a smart relay is all they are) then you can control those devices with one of these, but not out of the box.
Out of the box this only controls hue devices (So see #1 path of least resistance, using a Hue bulb)

I recently added a few tp-link tapo matter dimmer and non-dimmer switches.
They don't require a hub, but have been pretty solid so far. Was a real pain getting them added to Apple Home, but they've been pretty reliable since. They've been working for about 2 months now with no issues.
