Not true across the board. Here in Charlotte, NC, Duke Power has these sales but they are never free or even close to $50 but do have $50 or $75 off. They do not have to install it and they simply ship you the device at discounted rates. They do not control it.

If you let them control it, they give you an additional $75 one time off your power bill.

check your local power company websites, I can get this for under $50 through mine... sometimes they even have it free.

They usually have to install it and you have to let them " control" it too. Nobody doing that
Not necessarily. We got one at a substantial discount from our local utility company, installed it ourselves, and that discount did not require enrollment in their program to allow them to adjust the peak period temp. You do get an additional discount (bill credits) by being in that program, but it is not required. At least, that is how it works in our area.

Got the last one at my local home depot it was clearnenced at $62.00 tried to use my ca state rebate but couldn't get it to work. The awesome Home Depot worker gave me $50 off instead got it for about $14.
Would you be able to send me your coupon? Golden state site is having issues and even when I call they're stuck trying to find what the issue is.
Going to head to home depot and see if I find one.

Can they be sued if you contact mold in your house?
When you sign up for the program, they will likely make you sign a 30 page legal agreement written by well paid lawyers that should cover those types of aspects.

Can anyone tell me if these are reliable or better than an EcoBee? I keep reading about WiFi chips going out and the software being a pain. I'm afraid to install it and potentially lose out on $150, especially when people seem happier with an EcoBee.
I used an Ecobee thermostat for the last 6 months and recently replaced it with the Nest Learning Thermostat. While many review lists ranked the Ecobee as their top pick for having more features than its competitors (which I found to be generally true), two factors prompted me to switch.
First, the main feature I wanted—the ability to turn off the A/C when a window or door sensor detects an open state—required a monthly subscription (part of the security package?).
Second, the Ecobee app felt unnecessarily complex, with basic operations buried one or two layers deep in menus (vs spinning the exterior knob on the nest display). Overall, I'd still recommend the Ecobee if you enjoy tinkering with settings. So far, the Nest has proven more streamlined, responsive, and even better looking than the Ecobee.

Just a PSA: Check product packaging for possible tampering especially for the senors.

I bought 2 sensors yesterday that were in the clearance area and went home to find nothing in the box. I was just browsing around then surprised to find them on clearance. Grabbed them and was excited to try them out. I didn't notice how light the everything was until after the fact.

I assume you can control this through an app? Do you need a subscription to use the app to control it remotely?

anyone in the philly area -- they are all sold out (columbus, oregon etc) except for 1 in plymouth meeting near KOP. I bought two since I travelled far and left one. Hope this helps an SD'er grab one! Good luck!

Found 1 but needed 2. Didn't realize, but it was open box. Said white, and black was inside. Hmm. Regardless,, hoping it works and I find a second soon.

Plenty of sensors at $10 each .

My store had them in the clearance endcap at the back of the store. Worth a shot for the price. Annoyed these energy rebates usually never work for places that don't have natural gas heat. Was hoping to get 50 dollar rebate.
