For $57 more, it almost seems better to just get new.

Just when I thought it was impossible for a modern laptop with a dedicated GPU to sell for under $500,
the good Doc comes through with another incredible deal!

Thumbs up and repped!

Considering the RTX 3050 is the entry level for gaming it's far far FAR from mid range gaming.

Playing "solitaire?" LOL...okay.Seriously who is claiming to be hardcore gaming on a 15.6 screen with a crippled GPU then complaining he isn't getting the full "mOdErN ShOoTeR" experience on said 15" screen* while his video card is maxing out at less than 100 watts? Come on, is that really the stance we are talking. Do you also drag race a Ford Fiesta LMAO2And the market share for console to PC gamers....consoles win every year, and by a fat margin. As much as I hate a console that is the truth. Clearly some people don't die when playing Call of Duty 73 at only 60 frames per second. Bye bye kiddo, enjoy not playing games on that "slimmer" i3 with 8gb of RAM...that will teach'm!*I played Quake 1 back in the day on a bigger monitor.
the masses are fine with consoles, people who want a better experience move away from consoles for a reason. we're not talking about what is best for the majority of consumers. 100ish frames on a 16" display is playable for me, 60 frames on a large screen is not. good luck with the 'back in my day' quake stuff, technology has moved on

Good luck getting 100ish frames on that "slimmer/lighter laptop with no dedicated video card" alternative you suggested. Perhaps it could handle solitaire? Or Maybe Quake 1 on med / high settings...certainly not a "modern shooter" with your champagne tastes and beer budget. You might get north of 100 fps on some 'back in the day' games though Wink

Can anyone tell me if this is a much better deal than this computer I bought yesterday? Thinking of canceling or returning if so.

i suggested an alternative of a thin or light laptop instead of this one since i wouldnt game on either. if i were buying a laptop for gaming, i wouldnt buy either. try to keep up bud

Sad when people think their world view, is the only world view and everyone who thinks differently is by default wrong.

Point is, your line in the sand...isn't everyone's line in the sand. Some of would rather game in less than ideal situations on the rare occasion we cannot use an external monitor vs not gaming....at all. The latter choice is really boring to me but hey, you might like staring at the wall. I won't judge my bud for being so easily assumed if he promises not to lambaste me for being able to tolerate similar frame rates 99% of the content we both consume via TV and youtube. But yes, better screens are mo' better, but also mo' money.

Feel free to have the last word and enjoy gaming on your imaginary laptop with the 240hz screen. I'm sure it will be a blast.....

My fellow SD budget laptop/desktop/gaming/misc. enthusiasts, before any negative responses or arguing, do 3-8 pushups (warmup, depending on your size and fitness) and 1-2 minutes later do 10-30 pushups or as many as you can do within reason.

After that, think carefully for a couple of minutes before responding.

Let's all respect each other and try to be reasonable, and yes I can likely benefit by following my own advice. laugh out loud

No open box options available but new is listed as $529
This better laptop is available for me for $446/483/$538:
(Please note only the $538 option is "Open Box - Excellent.")

Open Box Lenovo - LOQ 15.6" Gaming Laptop FHD - Intel Core i5-13420H with 8GB Memory,
NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3050 6GB - 1TB SSD, 144Hz, 350 nits, IPS.

3050 6GB has 50% more graphics memory than 3050 4GB, along with a decent amount of extra performance.

https://www.bestbuy.com/product/l...ition=fair

Open Box Fair: $446
Open Box Good: $483
Open Box Excellent: $538

For me it's in-store pickup only and limited stock for all 3. YMMV.

Can anyone verify this laptop supports expandable RAM up to 64gb? Q& A from the site:
I recently bought this laptop and needed more RAM. how many gigs can it support, and how many Mhz is the max? I get many frame drops in games due to insufficient RAM.
Thank you for your question on this HP Victus! I am sorry to hear that your gaming experience his not been the best. This can support up to 2 sticks of 8GB DDR4 3200 memory for a total of 16GB.

I really really want to get this but I do have a couple of questions...

Does this also have an iGPU for switching when not gaming which would help with battery life?

Is 5 lbs a good weight for a gaming laptop? I'm guessing at most the weight would drop by a pound for a much pricier machine, correct?

Does this have a 2nd SSD slot? I would love to just be able to drop in my SSD from my current laptop to add to what this already has

Edited to add one more (probably dumb) question... Is DDR4 RAM not outdated for gaming? I almost never see it on gaming laptops anymore.. I am clueless about RAM tech though so please bear with me if that is a really dumb question lol
Yes it has a 2nd m.2 slot and from what I recall, it also has 2 RAM slots.

Also with regards to DDR4, it's still a thing. DDR5 will give you more bandwidth, but unless you are using a top shelf CPU, the gains are minimal.
