Yes, Linksys LN1301 is a terrific router with 2 GB RAM and 1 GB of flash. Insane! I thought my Netgear R7800 with 512 MB RAM is pretty good until the specs on LN301 blows the R7800 out of the water and is a tri-band router as well!

With wireless mesh (instructions below), it's one heck of a deal and blows DECO AX5000 deal out of the water, imho.

EDIT: UPDATED instructions for enabling MESH (thanks to @rbtcordell for the original source):

1-Setup your Main router completely.

2-Plug your child node using the wan port to the main router lan port, wait for a solid purple light on the child node before proceeding

3-Log into your main router web admin.

4-Click on CA at the bottom right.

5-Click on Connectivity and CA Router setup.

6-Click on both Add Wired and Add Wireless nodes buttons. Wait for the Add wireless button to re-enable.

7-Click Done adding Child Nodes and then Apply.

8-Now the child node light should start flashing purple and turn into a mesh mode when it turns blue.

9-Disconnect Ethernet and wait for blue light again.

10-Move node to desired location.

Double routers like that can be tricky if they both want to default to the same ip address ranges. I'd try disconnecting the WAN on the Linksys while staying connected to it's LAN port. You won't have internet access at that point obviously but shouldn't have any problems with it pulling up you other routers admin page. Then you can change the Linksys settings to use 192.168.2.xxx. Haven't gotten one so I don't know exactly where it is but it should be in the settings someplace. Once you've done that you should be able to hook back up the WAN and still finish the setup. Alternatively, you could go into your existing router and make a similar change. Either way, getting them to both not being trying to use 192.168.1.1 for the router address should fix your problems.

What are you trying to setup this separate mesh network for? Putting the Linksys behind your other router means that the stuff on the linksys will still be able to access stuff on your other routers network still.

Thanks and repped!

I will try and change the login page for the linksys, hopefully via the app which I now can access to make changes to it.

This is just the slick deals effect of me buying something cheap to mess with and hopefully benefit from it. But I bought these because I have Deco mesh units on each floor that I hardwire some devices that are nearby into and connect wirelessly for others.

The plan is set these up in the basement and move the decos upstairs so it's fine and actually preferred thar devices communicate. I probably should have said I'm not looking for a segregated network.

When you hook the node's (child) wan port to the main router lan port (parent), then the IP address for the node is handed out by the main. For example, if the main IP is 192.168.1.1 (default), then the child gets 192.168.1.2 or something similar from DHCP.

So, I am not sure why you weren't getting a different IP for the node as they should be different from the main?

For those of you who have ddwrt or openwrt on this, do those allow 80 or 160 mhz wide channels? Stock only works with 40mhz, which makes it slower than my eeros...
with stock firmware, auto is 80mhz, then if you want you can manually limit it to 40 or 20 mhz.

also why is this so cheap, is it because it's no longer supported and going to be some kind of security issue? for a regular person that wants a new wifi router because they noticed their old one being weird sometimes, is this good?
Its super cheap because it used to be a router with a $$$ software license to have a high security vpn. Since that didnt pan out they just baked another firmware with limited options, and are dumping them. Yes you will have zero support, but at least the first and last firmware will be quart 1 of 2024. And it does have some support for dd-wrt and open-wrt, so it will have "forever" support from them.

Does USB port work with openwrt or DD-Wrt?

If anyone got mesh to work with openwrt, was it using 802.11s? In the past, I had trouble getting mesh to work with linksys routers on openwrt. Even WDS didn't work reliably.
I'm using OpenWRT with 802.11s successfully. I'm using Qosmio's NSS build. He also provided example configurations for both the parent and children nodes on this git site [github.com]. you can either load his files or browse them and update directly via LUCI.

Anybody know for certain that this router WON'T be getting updates to the stock firmware?

I know this is a fire sale, but need to know if recommending it to a friend is a good and noble thing to do. Not planning on doing anything to flash it or custom build hers.

I ordered few days back and mines in mid September; but all my previous purchases from them came way before their expected delivery date, so I am assuming this will come before September 7th.

Got mine and set 2 up for a mesh system with wired-backhaul. Works great so far. No drops in connection. I need to do some more testing with the bands transitioning. But so far so good.
This is exactly what I want to do but with 2 satellites. Can u detail the steps you took to set this up? Thanks

edit: it looks like I can do this via the app... now the question is how bad of an idea is it to change the SSID and pass to the same as my existing mesh network? they will be on separate floors and I don't care too much about roaming and handoffs more about constant connection...

Question: I am trying to set this up as a separate mesh network and I have connected the parent to my original router.

How do I access the linksys setup page? I have internet access, solid purple light and I am connected to the linksys network, but if I type in the login address it takes me to my main routers setup page and not the linksys setup page? How do I find this address? TIA

When the Linksys is set to router mode (which it is by default) and you connect it to your existing router, and your existing router is using the 192.168…… ip range, the Linksys will choose a different ip range 10.x…… and the setup page for the Linksys will be 10.x.1.1. That is why you were getting the admin page for your existing router when you went to 192.168.1.1.

I did exactly this. It's plug-n-play, I am still on Linksys's default wifi SSID and password.

You built it yourself or he has pre-compiled binary images? I've never used openwrt but have used dd-wrt so not familiar with process to install openwrt on this router.

I have the Archer AX21 and love how reliable it is. No issues why gamble?

Well this is cheap and it only took hour messing around to get 2 working with improved wifi coverage to my yard. I do plan on going back to AX21 give this away.

The 2nd node took me 12 tries and not sure why it didn't work, but then suddenly did as WiFi backhaul. Now on wired backhaul.. Linksys stock firmware setup using laptop browser.

I setup one LN301 and noticed zero benefit from ONE linksys in same spot but no issues,

I have very small 2 level wood house. Every room has wired network access as an option so tplink I was very happy with. Roku, printer, desktops cameras are wired. Of course wifi is very YMMV as I have no HVAC duct work eash house and neighbors interference may affect it.

I do notice when using TWO Linksys LN1301 I have better measured speeds in my yard. In reality I always have enough speed in yard so didn't really notice issues.

I ordered 3 to test and setup for a buddy.that has larger house with wifi issues. He has Verizon FIOS AP and 1 Exender. If this is stable enough maybe Ill setup for him as he and family can't try to fix if un reliable. only 2 arrived so far.
