If you are not interested in using custom firmware yet, these routers support mesh with the stock firmware, but the USB port is disabled.
The stock firmware is relatively new, but is speculated to not receive many, if any, updates, so it may be best to wait until custom firmware support is merged and more mature before messing with installing custom firmware.
How to enable mesh:
- Setup your Main router completely.
- Plug your child node using the wan port to the main router lan port, wait for a solid purple light on the child node before proceeding.
- Log into your main router web admin.
- Click on CA at the bottom right.
- Click on Connectivity and CA Router setup.
- Click on both Add Wired and Add Wireless nodes buttons. Wait for the Add wireless button to re-enable.
- Click Done adding Child Nodes and then Apply.
- Now the child node light should start flashing purple and turn into a mesh mode when it turns blue.
- Disconnect Ethernet and wait for blue light again.
- Move node to desired location.
How to set up as access point:
- Disable DHCP (optional).
- Set the device to Bridge Mode under Connectivity tab.
- Connect cable from your router to a LAN port.
- Get some nail polish and a round sticker to cover the annoying flashing right light.
- Click the 'AC' at the bottom of the page to see the detailed configurations of wifi.

With wireless mesh (instructions below), it's one heck of a deal and blows DECO AX5000 deal out of the water, imho.

What are you trying to setup this separate mesh network for? Putting the Linksys behind your other router means that the stuff on the linksys will still be able to access stuff on your other routers network still.
I will try and change the login page for the linksys, hopefully via the app which I now can access to make changes to it.
This is just the slick deals effect of me buying something cheap to mess with and hopefully benefit from it. But I bought these because I have Deco mesh units on each floor that I hardwire some devices that are nearby into and connect wirelessly for others.
The plan is set these up in the basement and move the decos upstairs so it's fine and actually preferred thar devices communicate. I probably should have said I'm not looking for a segregated network.
So, I am not sure why you weren't getting a different IP for the node as they should be different from the main?
If anyone got mesh to work with openwrt, was it using 802.11s? In the past, I had trouble getting mesh to work with linksys routers on openwrt. Even WDS didn't work reliably.
I know this is a fire sale, but need to know if recommending it to a friend is a good and noble thing to do. Not planning on doing anything to flash it or custom build hers.

Question: I am trying to set this up as a separate mesh network and I have connected the parent to my original router.
How do I access the linksys setup page? I have internet access, solid purple light and I am connected to the linksys network, but if I type in the login address it takes me to my main routers setup page and not the linksys setup page? How do I find this address? TIA
I did exactly this. It's plug-n-play, I am still on Linksys's default wifi SSID and password.

I have the Archer AX21 and love how reliable it is. No issues why gamble?
Well this is cheap and it only took hour messing around to get 2 working with improved wifi coverage to my yard. I do plan on going back to AX21 give this away.
The 2nd node took me 12 tries and not sure why it didn't work, but then suddenly did as WiFi backhaul. Now on wired backhaul.. Linksys stock firmware setup using laptop browser.
I setup one LN301 and noticed zero benefit from ONE linksys in same spot but no issues,
I have very small 2 level wood house. Every room has wired network access as an option so tplink I was very happy with. Roku, printer, desktops cameras are wired. Of course wifi is very YMMV as I have no HVAC duct work eash house and neighbors interference may affect it.
I do notice when using TWO Linksys LN1301 I have better measured speeds in my yard. In reality I always have enough speed in yard so didn't really notice issues.
I ordered 3 to test and setup for a buddy.that has larger house with wifi issues. He has Verizon FIOS AP and 1 Exender. If this is stable enough maybe Ill setup for him as he and family can't try to fix if un reliable. only 2 arrived so far.
