Nothing.
If your son is going to be using it for most normal types of college work (research, writing papers, online classes, a few dozen chrome tabs etc.), this is a great option.
If he is going to be doing graphic intense work (web/graphic design, advertising, engineering, etc.) or playing AAA games, then you will need something with a beefier graphics card.
Overall, the specs are great for the price and the components are the current generation. The build quality should be solid (with an aluminum chassis), and the 2 in 1 feature is nice.
Good luck to your son, and I hope he excels in whatever he is studying and makes you proud.
Amazing that there are still some parts of the internet where people are cool to one another. Thank you to everyone on the thread, and thanks to you for the kind words about my son. I fully expect him to kick much ass in college, he's the best a dad could ask for.

For those that thumbs down this post, what's specifically not great about it? Looking for something basically just like this for my son for college.

Congrats and good luck to your boy!
I saw this laptop at best buy, it is a good solid machine which I would recommend, especially for $549 price. There is nothing similar at this price range at the moment.
You may also consider Apple MB Air - lighter, good screen, battery lasts forever. Costco has the M2 for $799 at the moment. Really, doesn't mater which recent generation is, they all excel for a student or CS professional. If you son is studying computer science - Apple is fine, they pretty much just need it for coding, which is platform agnostic. Most importantly, the Air and MB Pro batteries can last a full day of classes.

I like that it does not have a keypad - so the keyboard is centered with the screen.

I saw the 14" version at best buy and liked what I saw. The main downside to this 16" version is the weight. At 4.14 lbs, it's about a pound heavier than most 14" laptops and probably .5-.7 lbs heavier than some 16". If he doesn't care about that, then it's fine. The other thing is the 300 nit screen, which is fine for most people but if he plans on using it outdoors then it will be too dim. but then again, most laptops will be too dim outdoors.

I think comparably priced dells have a 250 nit screen. Probably need to get into the $700+ range to get higher with a dell.

I'm all for giving kids the best. But after buying an LG gram for my son who ended up breaking the screen in 6 months, I'm sticking to used Dell latitudes or Thinkpads. It's possible to get a 10th Gen or later i5 with 16gb for 250 or i7 for 300.

perfect for school work.

the key is fixable.

you don't give a teen a 100k car, 1k laptop, phone.
especially if they didn't pay half of it.

The kid better be getting A's or saving their own money. Parents need to stop spoiling their kids and creating entitled adults. We have enough, thanks.

Every teen isn't destructive. This has more to do with poor parenting from when they were small, to the present. Parents that don't teach kids to take care of possessions never learn. Just continue being idiots.
