It depends on your needs, but is cellular that big of a deal to most? I had a 3 with cellular back in the day and never used it. It seems like my phone is almost always close enough so I can use my watch to connect. I recently got an open box (excellent) 9 at BB for $259 and it was a new watch in an opened box. Won't prices on the 9 drop when the new watch comes out?
Parents purchasing the watch for a child who doesn't have a phone need cellular. It's a nice bridge for kids without having to give a younger child a cell phone. Outside of that and maybe some other specific uses/situations I tend to agree with you.

If that were true then the 8 should be dirt cheap right now. I doubt it will change much

Until they improve the battery life I will hate the apple watch to the end of days. It's like dealing with a puppy it takes so much charging and tending constantly. Seriously the only worth of it is that you can brag to yourself you have one.

Oh, and the stupid 3 foot charging cord they include further drives me crazy!

IMO the Walmart Series 8 45mm cellular stainless steel is a better deal, even considering the upcoming Series 10

Is it really that good of an upgrade from 7 cellular? Trying to decide
No. Ever since the 4 they are more or less the same. Sold my 7 over the summer running my old 4 now. Was hoping for a big X upgrade but bought the stainless 8 deal last week and will likely keep that. Once they get blood pressure reading to an accurate level it will be a must buy, but otherwise it's all incremental nice to have features. I think if you upgrade you should probably jump after 3 years or longer. So for me with 4, 7, a larger 10/X would be attractive but the deal on the 8 was stellar and the changes next week likely not enough to spend $$$ on marginal improvements.

I suppose not for most and clearly not for you.
But for a middle aged guy like me, trying to stay in shape by running, I see the value. No reason to carry my phone in my pocket. I can go for a run with my watch. If I keel over from a heart attack or get hit by a car, it calls my wife and 911 automatically. If I hurt my foot or something and need to call for a ride or something, I can do that too. Or answer an important call or text. I really don't like running with a phone in my pocket or strapped to my arm if possible.
Most people may not find this valuable, but I do, even though I'm cheap and don't like paying $10/month for the service... it gives some peace of mind to my wife at least when I go for a run.

In regards to prices dropping. Yeah maybe. But I suspect they are on sale now because retailers are trying to clear them out. So you may have limited availability for sizes, colors, cellular etc. So wait for the slickest deal. But I ordered one because my AW6 is toast and I don't want to miss out (and I don't want to spend the $$ for a newer model)

I ordered the SS Series 8 and a Series 9. Waiting to see the announcement before I open either. Also curious if there will be any deeper price drops as reaction to the new release.

Find an Apple Watch SE in the smaller form factor. Should be close to that price point. I routinely see them at $199.

the problem with apple watch is there is no AI. secondly every single person i talked to about with apple watch said the same thing it made them fatter . so what's the point???

my watch made me lose 65lbs since dec and althought the rate of loss is decreasing recently but I want to lose 80-85lbs and i can already tightly fit into Xsmall it should be a perfect fit in a few months

Agree, agree, agree. When so many other companies making watch batteries last 3 to 4 weeks, I can't justify buying the Apple Watch. My Amazfit GTR 3 Pro lasts me over 2 weeks, and I swim/bike/run almost every day with GPS & heart rate tracking.
I also just recently got the new iPhone and can't wait to go back to Samsung. Apple has fallen behind, badly. I used to be an apple fanboy. Not any more.

I spent too much time on my cellphone. Now I'm considering getting an Apple Watch with cellular so I can put my cellphone aside but can still receive phone calls. Can I use the same phone number or needs to get a new number?

Same number. It's designed to do exactly what you describe, be your phone when you don't want to take your phone with you.

A cellular watch SE tied to a family setup through parents phone is an excellent solution without breaking the bank.
