My kids have been using the $6 PSPlay app to stream to their tablets, and they just connect a controller to the tablet with a cord to avoid any pairing/re-pairing issues. Does the PS Portal actually offer any benefits over my setup?

PlayStation products and Sony Electronics products are two different things. Google "Sony Electronics" and click the first link. Their website shows you everything that falls under it, which you won't find PlayStation products.

Is this deal still active? I'm not seeing a way to enable the student discount on mobile. Perhaps I need to be on PC?

Ah I see the link to verify your student status now.
Any way to bypass this? I'll try uploading my student ID but it doesn't have an expiration on it + I graduated 7 years ago

One of my biggest regrets was buying the Portal. The lag (my internet is peachy) was insane. At home it was meh but when it came to anywhere else, forget it.

Not everyone can run cables to every room in the house or wants to. I have top of the line WiFi 6E mesh and gigabyte Ethernet, was hoping the tech would have improved, but nope
It's wireless, always going to be garbage. It's not reliable and never will be no matter how many thousands of dollars you throw at it.

Not sure why so much negative comments about lag/slow connection. I have this and it works flawless. No stutter or lag. Ps5 connected via ethernet to eero mesh network. I was able to play at friends houses, hotels, airports, in another country with no issues. Best device I've purchased.

I use it very frequently when I don't want the TV to be occupied by video games, I can also play adult games on it so my kids don't get exposed to content I don't want them to.

I haven't taken it anywhere because I don't play video games when I travel, but at home I've never had anything other than a seamless connection with it.

Overall very happy with it, I didn't think when I bought it I'd use it as often or appreciate having it as much as I do.

So you've got to have a PS5 to use this? It can't game by itself? Lame
Do you need to borrow some money to buy a ps5?

It's $127 for me with a 20% student and 20% circle coupon. It looks like it applies to the whole cart too. Can anyone recommend anything else that's a good deal right now?

That's a steal for the device, worth it for the screen and form factor alone as long as your PS5 is connect via ethernet. Just don't get it if you plan to play most of the time outside your home, results may vary.

I know it is the same for your kid in this case but for me if i have to use the tablet and controler I would rather play with my 42 inch oled tv

We have a nice 75" TV that the PS5 is connected to, yet my daughter still prefers to play through her tablet sometimes. I don't really get it, unless maybe she just likes the portability.
