Man another great find, I knew as soon as I ponied up for a new desktop that I'd finally start seeing some come on sale. This one is better by a wide margin than the one I bought, also more expensive but I definitely would have spent the extra money to get this one. Well done OP!

Sooooo.....Is Dell still using proprietary MB's and PSU's? Not gonna lie, that keeps me from buying this...This is arguably best bang for your buck deal right now performance wise, but I worry about how this rig runs after warranty expires...
Anyone with any recent experiences with Dell to ease my concerns? Damn, this price is good....

Hey experts, I need to build a PC for rendering complex exterior ArchViz in 3dsMax and Corona (CPU based renderer). Approx. 5400 frames at 2k or 4k resolution. Any idea on what should be the PC specs? Also from time to time I may need to render complex 8K images.

10% off for desktop/laptop or anything on Dell site is limited to certain models/configurations, not all of it. No idea why, but it's always the way Dell does it. I had configured an Alienware laptop on a previous deal and was able to get 15% off the cash back site work(at the time it was 15%).
I got 10% back on that popular rebate site, confirmed. So it should work for others.

I ordered one today and got confirmed and pending cashback.

Depends on the build afaik, a quick google search and it looks like this smaller form factor does use proprietary.

For everyone using the cashback site, did you use the Dell cashback or the Alienware cashback? It's my first time using the site (bought it through the app), but I chose Dell when I bought it and just now see there's a separate category for Alienware. Should I cancel and re-order through the Alienware CB link?

Is this one of the Intel chips that have an issue?
I'm guessing that issue is why you are seeing this on sale at all. If I had the need I would buy this on sale knowing that I might need to drop in a replacement CPU at some time. Intel will be forced to replace any that fail for years to come so it's not a real risk to the consumer.

Edit: I should add that I used to be an Intel employee working the phones for customer support over 20 years ago when they had a failure in some pentium chips, and I can tell from my own experience they make getting a replacement easy, all you are looking at is the potential hassle of replacing it yourself if your manufacturers warranty has already expired by the time you need to replace it. They are a company that stands behind their stuff.

Also just to be fair, two out of three of my processors are AMD now, but that's just because they had the price/performance I was looking for at the time.

You are the rare consumer that would benefit from spending the most on your computer, if you are CPU bound go for the top CPU you can get, if GPU plays any role get the top GPU you can get, within your budget of course.

If you absolutely cannot afford any downtime AMD's top offerings in both CPU and GPU may be the route you should take. That is not a profession to penny pinch. You are only as fast and as productive as your hardware allows you to be.

Man, mildly tempting. If only it wasn't that proprietary Alienware nonsense limiting upgrade options, or else maybe had a 4080, I'd probably bite despite my desire to wait and see how Intel's Battlemage gpus fare against midrange Nvidia/AMD.

Thanks OP! Ordered with 10% cashback from that big cashback site, and 5% cashback using chase credit card.
Under $1275 for this computer is a steal.

For Lightroom and Photoshop, would I be better to choose this Alienware upgraded with 14900F and 64GB, or base Mac Studio, since they're in the same $2000 price range?

Besides being about $1275 or less if you have all the right discounts, Dell has the free to join reward program. That about 8925 points convert to about $80 for future purchase in anything, like a monitor.
