been watching this for a price break, and here we are;

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0D227LVQK

description claims it's a metal housing
reviewers show switches are illuminated

i do not recommend buying this for the joule rating
as such things are unreliable on noname devices,
here the value is in the cord length and switches.

don't leave high amp devices running unattended,
as this noname does not bother faking a UL or CE.

i started buying these when i discovered some of the things i plug in
are using 5w 24/7 while not in use, also switched outlets extend the life
of some of the brittle plastic switches and membranes on your devices.

Brand: CCCEI
Seller: Middle way electronic
Business Name: Huaiyuanxian Zhongcheng Dianzikeji Youxiangongsi

OP: i'm curious which devices you found to be such power hogs when not in use? did you use a kill-a-watt type monitor to check? I know things like modems/routers/DVRs can be a bit high but also are not really viable devices to switch off when "not in use"

i am sure it was 14.40 with a 10% coupon all summer - ie 13 dollars.

there's also an 8-outlet one for 10 dollars - i don't believe it is metal - any good way to test for (painted) aluminium vs plastic?

anything with an led will use two watts - that what an ac-dc supply will typically use. i too can't think what's using 5w - something like those ryobi chargers with multiple lights?

the 6' was, never the 10' or 15',
but thanks for playing...

and yes, i used a "kill-a-watt type monitor"
standby watts were found on everything
from electronics to counter top appliances.

NYC has a relatively high electricity cost
(kWh is avg, but they add a ton of taxes)

standby was costing me $1/month in wasted electric
so using this $15 switch bank regularly can save me
$72 per year Cool

I have one of these by a different brand in white that is years old.

I use it for turning on/off 3 hidden accent mood lamps that cannot be easily reached year round.

And during Christmas I use the other 3 plugs to control my tree lights creating the options ALL BLUE, ALL GREEN, BLUE + GREEN, or ALL LIGHTS MULTI COLOR.

yup, i have one from rosewell so old the switch lights are dying.
i also have a few of these;
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07RBPRG1R

and am waiting for this variation to sale;
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0CLH7QR8S
to have more unit orientation options.

just be careful whichever single you buy is;
1. grounded 3rd prong in:out
2. illuminated switch
i find those lights are important at reminding
me i left something on standby and to shut it off.

it would be nice if more of them used green or white LED's
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00NY45N5G
i have a few 3 outlet strips that use green LED's when i need.

I find it amusing that the OP is pushing the absence of UL certification as a selling point: "this noname does not bother faking a UL or CE".

How honest of them that they don't lie! Must be a good reliable company to buy from!

To be clear, this product is a power strip with surge protection that does not have UL certification. Don't buy it.

Thank you OP!! I'm trying to understand the numbers, can you break it down a bit more as I'm not seeing the net cost benefit..

meter how much each device uses on standby (off waiting to be activated on)
pretty much everything network able, display led, membrane panel, sleeping
is using 1-4 watts all the time, i'm not even talking here about the ac/dc bricks
you may leave plugged in for rechargeable.

google any electric cost calculator, plug in the watt, duration 24h*30d,
all the kWh meter costs on your electric bill (anything billed by kWh)
as apposed to minimum taxes, line maintenance and delivery fees.

the resulting product you get in dollar$ wasted each month
just for the convenience of not having to flip an analog switch
each time you on:off then wait a few boot seconds, and keeping
where you plug stuff in accessible so you can reach said switch.
