They're sitting on 4 billion cash and practically debt free, so I think the credit will be fine.

That is what you would call fraud and one can only hope karma bites you in the arse one day for doing that. If that is in fact what you are doing.

Surely plenty of other people have upgraded from the 512 Series S to a Series X and would like to trade it in but keep their controller. So what is the value with no controller? This is a very relevant question to this deal.
I was quoted around $170 with defective controller including additional $25 bonus and PRO value

When I click the link in the app to get the trade value, it doesn't add the additional $25. Is that added at the store?? Thanks.
Yes, for Pro Members it will be the base $247.50 and the extra $25 bonus will automatically be applied in store when they scan the UPC and will ring up at $272.50 trade credit.

Thanks. I plan to upgrade my original 512 series s to a 1tb that operates at 2160p as opposed to 1480p. Thanks for the info!

Thank you. Sounds like getting a used controller first is in the cards.

I can't trade mine as I've modified it.

Yes. I just did mine today and you need to bring in:

-Console
-HDMI cable
-Power cord
-Controller

I also recommend having it fully updated when you bring it in, as they will update it on their WiFi and it took quite a while in the store I was in (I hadn't turned it on in months) and don't reset it before you bring it in. If you reset it before you bring it in, they have to set it up and log in and it takes extra time. If you bring it in with your stuff on it, it will be faster and they will factory reset it in front of you.

Controllers have been going down to 30-40ish on good sales and I'd bet Black Friday will have similar prices. I wanted to keep my controller but this trade in deal is too good, I'll just wait for a controller deal. Preferably at Gamestop so I can use the gift card haha.
If I literally still have one sealed in the box, they'll still will do this?

Yes, they need to test it. Also don't bring it into the store sealed. They won't accept it that way

No, I would highly recommend resetting any console you trade in. Just log out of your account after resetting. Doing this does not add any extra time. I would not trust GameStop to reset your console after trading it in.

Fair questions for sure, $0, they won't take it at all, you must have all original first party accessories upon trade in, won't take PS5 without the stand if you are trading a PS5 in, they need the USB charging cable the PS5 comes with, if you are missing the back plate for your Xbox controller they might also ding you with the refurbish fee for that.

It DOES add extra time, because with the XBox, they need to log into an account to be able to see the console. They don't have a standard account to log in with, so they have to create a new account and it takes a while to set up. With other consoles, they can have a factory reset console and test it right away. They told me this both on the phone and in person. And they literally reset it for you IN THE STORE IN FRONT OF YOU after they test it, so there's nothing to trust or not trust. You can also remove the XBox from your account online on the impossibly rare occurrence that they refuse to wipe it.

It doesn't need to be the original, just first party. They gave me the option of buying any used first party controller if I wanted to keep mine, and the cheapest available was $45, so they would have given me the full $272 but charged me $45 for a used controller.

Absolutely the right way.
I traded mine in last week and wiped it ahead of time which took about 2 minutes. At the store, they only checked to make sure it could connect to Wifi which also only took about 2 minutes. The whole transaction took about 7 minutes.

The S was an outdated console from launch day. My $40 Amazon fire stick could stream xbox gamepass .
Obviously you can stream Game Pass on a variety of devices. Anyone with Game Pass knows that. So it is pretty darn obvious, captain, that Game Pass is not our only use case.

Xbox S plays earlier games just fine. We have a ton of those digital games. They are not available on Game Pass. It also handles the "free" multiplayer games that my children play just fine. For $230 which is what I paid for it, the money was well spent.

Still valid. Traded mine in for $272, plus was able to purchase PlayStation gift cards right away (just got a PS5 and have no games) with the 5% Pro benefit for a total of $288 in value. Employee said buying gift cards was allowed as long as done before the store credit was generated.

Might as well ditch series X and S and get credit for ps 5 pro… I never use either of them
Terrible advice. If you have both an S and an X, by all means, trade in the S. But X is a good console well worth keeping.

PS5 is also great and worth keeping. Pro probably won't be worth the price of entry if indeed it winds up being $600+.
