There are only 2 crimes committed against comedy shows that are deserving of capital punishment:
1. Canceling arrested development after season 3 despite perhaps the best ensemble cast ever (not in terms of fame, but nailing their characters and the show's style).
2. Letting the scab writers (there was a writers strike) of season 3 make a season where he goes to prison and is in a coma. It killed the momentum of the show, and even though season 4 got back to the basics it killed the show and prevented it from getting a season 5.
My name is Earl was the kind of show that could've gone 10 seasons because of the premise and actors. Trying to turn your life around and fixing the bad things you did in life was the perfect 2000s version of 1960s shows where they tried to teach a positive lesson every episode.
By showing stuff from the past (either as kids or just younger adults) it still allowed for funny bad stuff, but got wrapped up with a neat bow at the end.
My Name is Earl had the best plot for a comedy show ever, and will never be topped. I love that show so damn much.
