I have had nothing but issues with prior purchase(s) from Newegg. I have stopped using them years ago.

+1. Newegg used to be my go-to for electronic everything, but it's funny how numerous problems with their shipping and customer service changed everything on that. Also, don't ever buy gift cards from them.

Software included for free. Synology is AMAZING for all the software packages you can install on this. I got one in July for full price. Highly recommend.

Same price at Newegg with their promo code SSVY24DW222 so I would say you're better off ordering direct unless there is some drastic difference in shipping….

But if you purchase on Walmart.com, you could easily return to the store. Or am I missing something here?
  • Return within
30 days after item is delivered
  • Returnable to store?
    Yes
Walmart requires seller to use minimum standards for item returns, but each seller has their own policy.

Less tax at Walmart since it's taxing the sale price. Newegg taxes the full price then applies a coupon.

5% back at Walmart using Discover this quarter helps with tax.

I understand the concerns about Newegg. They aren't what they used to be. Note that the DS224+ came up for the same price in July from B&H. It may have been cheaper during black Friday last year. I don't think that it is too uncommon for deals to come up and if you don't mind waiting, plus if you are concerned about Newegg.

Just FYI, I have two of them now for different applications; they are great little units. Easy to set up, and pretty seamless all in all.

Before you buy a NAS look at a number of youtube videos comparing them in 2024. Most recent models. Lots of stuff to decide on: 2 bay vs 4bay vs 8 bay, ram, options on network speed (1gb, 2.5gb, 10gb), NVMe vs no-nvme options, plex friendly vs non-plex friendly, lots of other things to consider, the Youtube videos will help you make a good decision.

If you are a more pro-user , just see what things have changed since you bought your older NAS.

I myself moved from NAS to DAS the last few years , which just means I bought a 4-bay unit that shows up as 4 drives under windows 11. Which are not tied to other formats , just regular windows format and you can put drives anywhere without having any problems.

Again, just weigh your OPTIONS with current info 2024 ... and tech options change over a few years. Happy researching.

I picked up my Syn DS220+ and 2x 12TB Seagate's for $82/each last year. Looks like the deal popped up a few weeks ago again: https://slickdeals.net/f/17306923-cert-refurb-12tb-seagate-enterprise-capacity-7200rpm-cmr-sata-6gb-s-enterprise-internal-hdd-82-free-shipping?src=SiteSearchV2Algo1

I love the price per gig but also these drives a little noisy/clicky but no problem with anything else.

I recently bought this NAS with two 4TB Seagate IronWolf drives from B&H and an extra 16GB RAM from Amazon. Most impressed with how nice the device works with photos (search by people, by place, by time etc.). Streaming works great (was able to put all my karaoke collection on the NAS and shared with the family and it all runs very smooth). Plugged in another 4TB USB drive to the NAS as the back up to the NAS and automated everything. Each night all new photos from each of our phones automatically get uploaded to the NAS and get indexed and backed up the USB drive on the NAS. In addition, any new files on our desktops also get automatically uploaded to the NAS and the plugged in USB.
