A bit too jaded. I have wide feet and have never been able to fit into a Hoka/Brooks/Asics/Saucony. Altra makes "foot shaped" shoes which run wide and this is really just common sense when you think about all the foot problems people have from jamming their toes into tight/pointed tip shoes. As for "zero drop", that is common sense as well. After all, we were all born with zero drop. One last thing (unfortunate) is that Altra has already been folded into a giant multinational (VF Corp). And the very first thing VF Corp did was start narrowing the foot shape/width. Sigh.

I love Altras, yes for the zero drop, but mostly for the shoe shape. They are foot-shaped and very comfortable. Most other shoes make your feet form to them (Not natural.).

Altras are zero drop, but they can have lots of cushion too.

There have been a big discounts on my preferred Altras for a few months now, about what Woot is selling them for. Makes me wonder what's wrong with them. So far, so good. They ain't pretty but they work great for me.

I bought the Paradigm 6's in May and they have been great for walking.

I'm surprised this shoe brand is still in business. They haven't been relevant for a decade. The minimalist and zero drop trends faded years ago.

Look into Hoka Bondi. It is highly recommended on Reddit forums for walking. I compared the Bondi and Clifton, the latter was a better fit for me. Been using it for day to day use. Soreness and foot fatigue is minimal now.

I own shoes both brands, and I prefer Altra over Hoka. Those ultra cushion shoes durability leaves much to be desired.

My 2 pairs of Altra were purchased almost 10 years ago and still going strong. My 6 month old Hokas already have creases in the mid sole and appear to wear out faster.

In quick lookup, these appear to be older, previous years models. I've just started to get into running shoes, primarily for walking needs, and it seems the current models are a premium price, around $135 to $160, depending on the brand but the prices seem to drop to around $100 for last years model. These on woot, some go back a couple of years, hence the heavy discounts. If you are a critical runner, perhaps the latest and the greatest shoe technology would matter to you but for many, like myself, a two year model at a steep discount is a win.

Note: this is just generic info, nothing specific to Altra brand. I don't one anything from Altra so far but at $56, I will buy a pair.

Just looked, didn't see any in men's. fyi - Altra makes a few of their shoes in a stated wide size, and those fit my wide feet well. YMMV. Easy to search and find those on their website.

Altras almost have to be paired with long term yoga classes. Very few people have perfect pronation, and perfect pronation is hard to achieve.

With imperfect pronation I think people find cushion assistance "feels better" even if its not better for them

It takes a rare breed to choose the footwear that feels worse, even if it is better for us. Specialized ignorance towards the comfort that quietly handicaps us.

My wife is a nurse who is on her feet for twelve hours at a time. I've bought her every shoe that some website says it's good for nurses, and her goto shoes are her Hoka Bondi. I think I have her three pairs she rotates through. She will wear her Brooks occasionally, or her New Balance. I prefer Saucony, but I do have some Bondis I wore out. They were good shoes that are now my yard mowing shoes.
