The external dimensions add up to 63". This exceeds the 62" checked baggage limit for most airlines.

The problem I've seen is if you fill up a bag this big it will be over 50 lbs which is now oversize +$100, I think the 24" check bag is more practical imo

That was my first thought too... Unless you are allowed 70 lbs or have a certain status with the airline, likely would be better off with a 24 or 25".

Always risk. I've traveled well over 1mm miles and if you go international, they will ding you. Domestic is fine. If you go budget airlines, they will check.

Good deal. I have their carryon for 12 years and travelled a lot for work. Snow, dirt, escalators, stairs - I just let it jump, never carried. I sat on it quite a lot. It shows time and has scratches but is fully usable.

I'm looking for a really nice soft side carryon, any recs? Separately, anyone ever buy a halliburton zero? Saw used ones are going very cheap on ebay right now.

Agreed. Most of the time they made us put our check-in in the measurement box. They need to make money somehow.

Due to the various types of checked baggage. There's no measurement box for checked luggage. I've checked in moving boxes, flying out of SFO without them checking size. But yes budget airlines do do gate check for size and weight limits for carry on.

Apologies - meant to say for carry-on. Thanks for the note!

What if you have something large and bulky but not dense? Like a large picture frame?

It all depends on what you put in it… clothing only won't go over 50lbs. And always measure at home or borrow scale at hotels.

I mostly fly using SQ (4 times a year internationally) and they usually let you pack up to 52lbs (23.5kg), as long not heavier then 24kg.
