you dont need to have $5 in your account. I dont and got it just fine. I think the point is that your steam account has to have spent at least $5 during its life.

I never had a Fanatical account until now. Just set one up and redeemed the Steam code for this game, probably took me as much time as it took you to post your reply.

Just saying...

Also, jgasko is correct, the requirement is just to have added or spent $5 at some point on your Steam account.

That might be true but you miss my point entirely . The time required was not my primary concern — my primary concern was that you need to give your email address — which is fine if you have a junk collector email account and you did not already have a Fanatical account — and that was probably your situation. If you already had a Fanatical account connected to Steam then I don't think you could connect a second Fanatical account with the junk collector email to Steam.

I was just reading the rules as described in the listing —but again this is not my primary point — my point is that you are giving your email to what is likely a third party bot which collects and sells gamers' emails to spammers looking to buy lists of the emails of serious gamers. That is because typically a company farms out marketing / emailing newsletters to a third party which specializes in doing that and typically the cost of that third party's services is subsidized by the fact that the third party can gather and sell emails.

About the newsletter subscription: they send you an email asking you to confirm that you want to subscribe for the newsletter after you claim the free game. You just need to ignore that email. Then you can easily see your account communication settings at: https://www.fanatical.com/en/account/contact.

If you're scared of something like that, I'm here to disappoint you. If Fanatical really wanted to sell your email to scammers or bots they'd have already done so. No consent needed.
