That's the only reason I didn't just grab one of these to use as a media drive for music and movies. Currently using a 3tb Toshiba P300 and for being a 'dino drive' it's still very useable. I even have some games running off of it. M.2s are super nice and I have a few in my system but I would trust a SATA SSD more than an M.2 for any kind of important data currently.

This isn't that stunning; these 2.5" SATA disks are ~8x slower than their NVME counterparts (which come in the stick form factor)
At this point SATA Ssds are meant to be put in a NAS. And for that, it has really low endurance.

Right? 600 TBW is like 100GB/Day for the next 16.4 years. This drive is gonna fail so fast. That's why I will only get things like the Samsung 990 Pro with 2400 TBW...that biddy will last 65.7 years...just barely enough time time past the 5-year warranty for me to pick up a new one.

I don't get why the SD culture is so against these.

I am a photographer. I spent 19 days in Iceland (2 of those include air travel) and took 20,081 photos on my Z7II (45.7MP) for a total of 381GB on disk, or 20GB per day. With a "crappy" lifespan of 600TBW, this drive will only last until May 2044.

PCIe 3.0 vs 5.0 is up to ~10% slower when loading games (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tD2pn1_jWPU), but I personally don't know I would tell the difference between 38.5 seconds and 34.5 seconds. SSD SATAs are proportionally slower than PCIe 4.0 NVME drives (about 10%)...and sometimes only hundredths of a second off (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hE4JV2FYw0U).

It is super cool that some of you are buying 4TB PCIe 5.0 drives. But for those of us who come to Slickdeals to save money, this is an amazing deal for storing data while traveling or gaming. I play games for hours at a time. 4 seconds every 15+ minutes does not affect my experience. Will your game load faster? Yup. But with the extra $200 that I saved by getting this antiquated dinosaur of a drive, I just picked up 3-4 games at full price...or, because we are always on the prowl for good deals, I picked up another 10 games to play...and I will suffer through that slower load time because of it.

In addition this works with older PCs and there is hardly any performance loss with those.

A single game download is more than 100GB, game updates are 10+GB, a single 4K movie can be 10+GB. Then this is a DRAM-less drive so it'll use NAND for indexing. Also 600TBW is only 150 full drive wires under ideal conditions. With write amplification it's probably even less

Sure.

But words matter. *Some* games are more than 100GB. Ignoring that none of the games I have installed on my desktop or my sim rig are more than 100GB nor are the most recent 12 purchases in my library I have yet to download, I concede they do exist. Challenging though because people cannot seem to agree on their size. Game Rant (https://gamerant.com/pc-games-fil...gest-huge/) and The Gamer (https://www.thegamer.com/steam-ga...e-size-gb/) come up with different file sizes for the same game.

60% of people whose data goes to steam have less than 500GB of free space on their drive and 45% of people have more than a 1TB drive (https://store.steampowered.com/hwsurvey). I suspect that while write amplification is an issue (fully willing to concede the point), it is far worse for someone who has a 1TB SSD with 600 TBW like the 990 Pro with less than 500GB free, than it will be on a 4TB drive with the same amount of games installed. To say nothing of the 38% of gamers with less than 250GB free on the same drive.

let's just agree that you get what you pay for. this drive is not for everyone. it will fit amazingly for some and gonna be crap for others.

for me, if it can last 6-7 yrs, maybe it'll be worth it because by then for this amount of money we might be looking at 16 TB drives, but with 600TBW because it'll probably be on "Octo-LC"

Been using this for the last 4-5 years, would recommend. And nah, I don't game, acting like 100GB games are the norm.
