The individual circuit view has really helped me find some major drains in my house that I don't think inwould have found with a whole house solution. Something like a dieing refrigerator compressor suddenly using twice as much energy wouldn't show up on a whole house but is noticeable on single circuit tracking.

I know nothing about this company, but if their products are only available at Aliexpress, Amazon, and eBay, that's probably not a good sign.

Also, the Vue can be flashed with esphome which is nice if you're in that or the HA ecosystem.

People who plan on overhauling their home electric in the near future, now have the option of smart panels which include features like this built in. New full panels before any incentives will usually start around $1.5K and run all the way up to $4K.

Just something to think about if your already planning on spending in the near future.

If you have the standard privacy beliefs of most people that "I have nothing to hide", then I would not worry about China. If you don't have that attitude, then something like the vue offers the ability to flash with different firmware to keep things local. Lastly, if you are only worried about China, but not US tech firms, gtfoh.
Just adding to your response:

from wikipedia:
The nothing to hide argument is a logical fallacy which states that individuals have no reason to fear or oppose surveillance programs unless they are afraid it will uncover their own illicit activities. An individual using this argument may claim that an average person should not worry about government surveillance, as they would have "nothing to hide"

I did too, before i switched to a myq equipped garage door opener.

Thr Meross unit was great! No huge bells and whistles. But it just works... (i'd say even more reliably than MyQ, had it for 3-4 yrs before the switch!)
I actually did the opposite: switched from MyQ to Meross garage door opener. As you say not a lot of bells and whistles but works well. I've had it for 2 years now and it's pretty reliable.

If this burns your house down I'm guessing the insurance company will just laugh at you
This is not a helpful comment. This device does not actually connect to any of your wiring. It senses current via the magnetic field emanating from the wire.

If you know very little about a topic, maybe just read and learn first.

I've one of their HomeKit compatible dimmer switches with a secondary remote. Works as advertised. No issues.

Different class of product but I'd consider them again for something else.
I was gonna say the same, got a 4x pack of Meross smart-plugs 3 years ago and all have functioned flawlessly in HomeKit so far.

I wonder how much electricity is wasted trying to track how much electricity you're using
I couldn't quickly find a spec sheet for this one but I found one for the similar Emporia and it's less than 3 watts. If it reminds you to shut off just one light bulb in your entire house before going to bed you'll have saved more in electricity than you are using on this device.

I have been using a smart home DIY enthusiast version of this for years and it has been super valuable to me.

Iotawatt - https://iotawatt.com/

Completly local and private, no monthly cost, no cloud server, etc.

The only issue is with only 14 CT clamps I didnt have enough to monitor my entire panel, this item has a few more connections so that has my interest but not worth changing my setup for.

I simplty did some configuration in the app that basically said (total power - (sum of all connected circutes)) = Unmonitored Energy.

So for the not so important circuits I know how much they are, just not individually.

I suggest that you consider heeding your own advice. This non-UL-listed device resides in, and is powered by, your electrical panel.

What is the use case for this?
Depending on the system, it can warn you when there are unusual increase in usage such as frig running longer then usual indicating that there is something wrong with the frig. I can identify power surge and when from the grid to help you determine if you need surge protectors or other power protection. It can also help to identify constant on items that could be turned off to save $.

I have used it to check if I left a heater on or not when I left the house for a trip. It can save you some time in running back to the house to check.

Power can be cut at your meter. You were right to be nervous as you should never remove the cover to a live panel.

Yes it can, but I felt more uncomfortable in breaking the tamper seal on my electric meter and unplugging the meter.

To your point, there's wall plug energy monitors that could achieve the same result with less installation work if people are afraid to mess with their electrical panel

Would this tell you if other people (neighbors)) are using your electric?

How is this compared to the Sense Energy Meter, I've had Sense for many years, and tbh I'm not very happy with it. It takes ages to find things and has too many items in the not found bubbles
I'm in the same boat. Sense was good at my last house but current one has more circuits and it is not accurate.

Waste of time and money. I have solar and would not use this stuff. Whats the warranty and who provide support? Are the power wires the correct awg for the breaker you intend to use? Is it rated for a 15 or 20 amp breaker? Is it UL certified? Do you need permits when altering your service panel? If youre worried about leaving a light on get some exercise and take a walk before going to bed. lol
