Non-owners always have a LOT to say about these – and believe me, I get it, I swore up and down I never wanted or needed one of these things. I got one as a gift two years ago and I would unequivocally say I would buy myself one now and have given a few as gifts. They just WORK and are perfect for a slow coffee drinker, like myself. For the record, I only opened the app once, I don't need to futz with temps after one setting.

My main tip, though: do not waste your time/money/coffee on anything less than the 14 ounce, the 10 ounce is just TOO little.

In my experience the warranty isn't the best. Have the Mug2 and lid broke when I pressed it in after a few months. Had to practically beg for them to do a one time exception and send me a replacement after sending pictures and videos of broken lid. Still had receipt and within 1 year of ownership.

The Gen 2 has a button on the bottom, you hold it down and it turns off.
Pro tip for my ember fam, buy a small pack of rubber coated baby spoons to stir your coffee.
Never use a regular spoon as it will chip the coating.

I really like this now that I have had it for a few days... and after my daughter saw it she wants it... so now I am on the hunt for another deal on a metallic one this time (the rose gold one sold out while in my cart... which was right after this deal was posted).

I ordered a Used Very Good from Amazon for $82 which is the best I could find for any metallic (they seem to have fewer peeling problems?), but doesn't ship for another 1-2 months, so I have time to keep looking for better.

I guess that is a summary of my review... I want another one.

Why wouldn't someone just use a $10 thermos with a lid?

Has anyone checked the temp with a thermometer to see how it compares to the set temp?

OK I did it myself. I have the 16oz Tumbler. I poured in a cup of tea with it set at 145F. After around two hours I just measured it with my Thermapen and it was 143F even thought the App says 145F. So I guess that's close enough.

Another Ember fan here. I laughed at my nephew when he showed me his. He's not pretentious at all but I could not believe anyone would waste their money on a cup with a battery. Ridiculous.

...Except I like espresso drinks with foamy milk (also ridiculous I suppose) and they really don't taste good when they cool down, so I would gulp them around the 15 min mark. Now I drink slowly for up to an hour, and I absolutely love it. I actually travel with my Ember if I can spare the room in my suitcase. Yep. It's like that.

One down side: I think cleaning the cup is slightly a pain in the ass. It can't go in the dishwasher, and rubbing soap around the inside with my hand or a scrub brush never works. But I do find that a microfiber or dish flannel works very well. I hate sponges, so I can't speak to those.

And keep unscrewing and repouring the hot coffee into a cup (let alone a plastic cup) and rescrewing the lid, and then washing the thermos and the cup? I mean...sure, if that's what you want. Or maybe your point is that you don't want to spend more than $10 to have hot coffee, and that's completely fair. The Ember sure as hell is not the best way to save money. It's spending money for a better experience (see: most Apple hardware).

I've never bought factory reconditioned or from Woot in general but sharing my experience with this deal. I ordered 2 of the 14-oz mugs. One of them was marked as reconditioned but the other was labeled as "used". maybe this is ok since factory reconditioned is technically used? Neither were in original packaging or came with documentation (again, maybe this is normal?). The real issues were: one was the wrong item (ordered 14 oz and rec'd 10 oz) and the other was the correct item but doesn't work. so i will be sending both back. the 14oz mugs have now sold out so bummed that I won't get a mug at all. luckily it does seem like I can return for free and for a full refund.

Or just drink from an insulated tumbler which will keep hot for hours.

I just discovered something that I wish I had known before I bought it. After two hours of not drinking it turns off. I had the bright idea that I would pour my coffee in it before I go to bed, and it would be ready to drink when I get up. So turns out that bright idea wasn't so bright. LOL

Got my 14 oz Smart Mug 2 a couple days ago.
Downsides: Battery life is 80% and the app does not play well with new android phones.
The 80% is less than idea but my use case will have it sitting on it's charger 90% of the time anyway so it's not going to effect me. I resolved the app issue by using my old phone to install the app. I was able to update the firmware with no issues on my old phone. I will also not be using the app with any regularity. I set my temp to 'coffee' which I think was 134 degrees and it's about perfect for me.
One other thing I noticed with this mug is that when I pour milk into my coffee or tea, it goes right to the bottom. Most of my other coffee mugs will 'mix' when I pour in the milk. I have to actually stir my drink in this mug since it has no lid to slosh it around to mix.
I got busy with a project this morning and didn't touch my morning tea for almost 2 hours and it was still the perfect temp. Absolutely worth the reduced price IMO.
If the app ever gets TOO troublesome I would suggest getting the app Ember Supreme. It's like $3 but the developer basically interrupted the Bluetooth signal and deconstructed the information so he could rebuild it from the ground up but better. I got it after within 2 weeks Ember literally broke their own app and had to roll it back and after some google searches I learned outside of that it was a horrible app and has been for years.

Amazing mug, horrible software. Ember Supreme is totally worth it in the long run.

You didn't realize it only heats for 80 minutes....not 8 hours? Definitely wasn't a bright idea.

Yeah, I know off the charger the battery is going to die after a couple hours. I was planning on leaving it on the charger all night. So assumed the battery wouldn't die and keep the coffee hot all night. Didn't know it shuts down after two hours if you don't move it. The way they market it makes it sound like you can keep your coffee hot all day. Which will only work if you keep going back and take a drink within two hours.

Ahhh. I understand now. Mine didn't come with a manual so didn't know that.
