They're coming out with a new power head soon, and they just came out with the 8.0/12.0 forge batteries, so that's why these are being cleared out. But with that said, this is a great deal, thanks OP! https://www.milwaukeetool.com/products/3016-21st

Today, I picked one up and it turned out to be just a 6A XC battery when I opened the box. If you picked one up recently, can you verify that it's an 8A battery in the box?
I did pick one of these up and the battery included is a 8AH (XC8.0)

I picked mine up but they only had a display model as it was new, outside of box and dusty. Battery was packaged in box 8ah but hitting the level display it was flashing 1 bar which isn't the norm so probably sitting for years. Only one they had and all other ace's were $250 so I guess I'll keep it. Took the joy out of an actual Slickdeal being it wasn't brand new in box for my case this time 'roun'.

Is the battery you got possibly one of the new Forge line batteries ? (just a thought)

Is this the model that was known for having vibration issues that damaged the battery/contacts on the power base? I have one that I bought in June of 2022 and the big high output M18 battery has failed as well as the battery not seating well into the slot anymore.

It's a 6Ah XC. I went in today and exchanged it for an 8Ah XC.

I'm surprised this has decent reviews considering it's only an 18V tool. I haven't had luck with any ~20V outdoor tools and moved to all 40V a while ago.

Why are they making a new power head? Is there something wrong with this design?
Milwaukee tends to upgrade or make a new version every few years of many tools. I've had this weed wacker about 5 years, last year it started to over heat shut down pre maturely . Pretty annoying you have to just hit the trigger again and it comes back on and shuts off a short time after the longer you use it the more frequent it happens. Unfortunately past my warranty period. It did last several years before I had a issue. This is a good deal ( the battery alone cost more than this entire kit) I considered buying it until I read these comments a new one is being released shortly.

I think you want either a 40v or 56v string trimmer. I have an Ego 56v string trimmer. It has plenty of power. I do not think that 18V is going to be enough. You can get by with a 18/20V pole saw but the string trimmers need more power.
