It would depend on what you do with it.

There are not many Gen 5 drives yet. They run hot. And unless you do a lot of large sequential transfers, you'll likely not notice any difference between a good Gen 4 and a Gen 5.

There isn't a huge improvement with current Gen 5 drive random I/O vs Gen 4. Most folks won't even notice a difference in random I/O between a Gen 3 vs Gen 5 in daily activities. (unless they do lots of large sequential read/write )

Its a good drive and ranks up there with the best according to reviews. I've got the 4tb model and it runs cool even in my laptop. Price is fair but may be better during black friday. If you need it now then dont hesitate.

The SSD controller is the Black G2 (20-82-20035-B2) from WD, a DRAM cache chip is available. Western Digital has installed 112-layer TLC NAND flash on the SN850X, the flash chips are made by Kioxia.

Replaced my 1tb 980 pro with one of these in 2tb a while back. Solid drive. Testing back to back on the same machine with win10 imaged over showed the WD to be slightly faster in every category (pci 4 mobo). Only a few % difference but i'll take it. Didn't measure loading times but drive felt (and still feels) nice and snappy. Also prefer WD's config software over samsungs for whatever that's worth.

Awww, looks like it went out of stock while in my cart.

FWIW, looks like they still have it available with heatsink for the same price as without, $150.

This is perfect for PS5 if you have a heatsink. Even Mark Cerny agrees.

I have the 1TB card and it is requesting a firmware update. Anyone run into issues updating the firmware?
