Awesome watch. I have a few king turtles and they're a joy to wear. You'd think they'd be oversized, but with the lug to lug, they're great on both a NATO or the bracelet. If I had a complaint it would be that Seiko needs to get with it on how you size these bracelets. Once you get it, they're super secure, but pins and collars are a pain to size the first time.

My Seiko 5 Sports is on its last legs after 15+ years of abuse. I understand something like this is a step up from that, but I'm also considering an Orient Mako 3 which has similar specs (but I like the Mako's case and dial more). Any thoughts?
Orient Mako 3 - now upgraded with better two tone colorways, sapphire crystal, same true and tried design just beefier, still the watch that will get you a compliment and then a questionable look when the person says what is "Orient" did you get this from Walmart? Hard to ask for $300 for something that has no soul - but its a damn fine watch that pairs with everything, but it will never have a voice or speak to anybody is my main concern.

Seiko Prospex - carries name recognition, has lots of character and unique design, wears with a commanding presence, but is arguably harder to wear for various events/formalities, when you get a compliment the persons says "Ooohhh, I always wanted one of these someday," leaves you feeling a little warmer to own some of the tradition.

Sure Orient makes a great watch and used to make it affordable. Since nothing is affordable these days, its up to you if its worth the $300 to own something very few people will understand or share your passion for. The Seiko just talks to everybody so much more is the way I see it. I pulled an Orient Mako I Orage Dial and a Pepsi Seiko Air Divers from the drawer (both handed down to me from my dad) and yep, the Mako had whispers of mediocrity to say while the Seiko was yelling damn it fool, should wear me right now!

Grains of salt though, I was wearing a Garmin Instinct Solar with my business suit today, so....

How does this website work? How do you know which other watches you can just buy instead of submitting an offer?

Sadly you have to be careful with Seiko. Buy one made in Japan and you have a very high value proposition. Not so for this model which has a Japanese made movement and then was assembled/manufactured in the cheapest possible place.
Interesting, are they not all made in random places in addition to Japan? Im sure I have seen this model made in Japan. I own the dark manta and have seen that watch made in Japan and other locations.

It seems there's not much difference these days between the Thailand/China vs Japan models. This comes from a channel that's considered authoritative amongst collectors. https://youtu.be/4Z3OGn3wspg

But Made in Japan watches definitely hold values better.

Thanks OP, I'm in search of a decent watch to use daily. My Tudor Prince Tiger green face started to gain over 20 minutes in 24 hours, it it has to go in for service. Service starts at $500, which makes watches like this very appealing.
That's crazy I don't get the allure of luxury watches if that's how much it costs to service them.
