New to planers but I've been wanting one. Jumped on it. Very limited stock around me.

Seems like a solid deal this one has a max board thickness of 6" vs 12" for the other Ridgid planer home Depot carries.

Also note it's retail is $389 not the $549 that the title suggests.

Also depending what home depot you select to set online, you can also get free home delivery. 💡

The other one's max thickness is still 6". I guess 12" was a typo.

He/she was talking about thickness, not the width.

Yep, and the 22-590X was apparently just a cosmetic change from the 22-590. Not a lot out there on either model.

The item was removed from the HD web site. I don't know if that's permanent.
If anyone is interested here are links to the Rigid manual and the Delta manual. The Rigid does indeed look to be a rebadged Delta.

So this looks like the cheapest three blade around . Sparse reviews on it. I ordered it. Anyone have an opinion. I'll not be doing anything but amateur stuff with a lot of cypress - speaker fronts, vanity, bookshelf, etc.

This deal is not dead, but the HD website listing appears to be. The pricing itself is a markdown rather than clearance and is still available in-store. The markdown, according to the shelf, is $389 down to $299. There were 3 available at the North Nashua, NH store this morning. The only concern I would have is that the Rigid site states this item is not supported by the lifetime service agreement, but rather a 5 year warranty. My guess is that this is an older model which is being phased out.

If there's still interest in the R4850 I found some additional information. I believe the unit has been marked down to $299 for a few weeks.

There's some information here on portable planers with a nice chart toward the bottom of the article:
https://www.woodmagazine.com/tool...op-planers

This is an older Slick Deals thread on the Rigid 4331. There's mention of the R4850 in here.

These sell used, constantly in my area. The R4331 probably the worst tool made by Ridgid.

On the other end of the spectrum, Ridgid's R4850 is a surprisingly good planer if you can get a good enough deal on it. But, being near the same price as the 735 Dewalt, it doesn't get noticed, understandably.

I hope the one's people here buy, aren't plagued the 4331 issues they're known for.
I'm assuming the R4850 originally sold for $500 then there was a price increase to $549, now a drop to $389 with an additional $90 off.

Since this is a rebadged Delta product that could be the reason it doesn't fall under the lifetime repair policy of other Rigid products. But I'm just guessing here.

Whoops, didn't realize that, thanks. Apparently he/she finds you to be a comedian
