How much do you expect for a non-carrier promotion for a 4-year old base model phone?

AT&T & T-Mobile offer $1K value for iPhone 12 with their premium plans. Many are buying it for trading in with their carrier. Already got a 12 from Metro last deal, which was $50 more.

Keeping my current phones (13 and higher) as spares so I can trade these in instead for less.

If you don't auto-pay or extend service, there is nothing to cancel. You just stop paying. Based on what I have read, device should auto unlock after 12 months from activation and continued service is not required.

Check out the unlock policy link I shared earlier.

So is there any need to open the phone's package once I get it? My plan is to sell it unopened. Is that possible?
Do you plan to sell it as LOCKED or UNLOCKED?

I know this thread is about iPhone 12, but I'm going to provide some useful info. An iPhone is unlocked when its IMEI is added by Metro to an Apple database of unlocked phone. You can check the unlock status of an iPhone at www.IMEICheck.com [IMEICheck.com] or www.sickw.com [sickw.com] . With a Metro Android phone, you have to turn on the phone, turn on Wifi, then go into Settings-->Unlock to unlock it after it's eligible for unlocking. As such, you can leave a Metro iPhone in the sealed box and it can still get unlocked, but you'll have to take a Metro Android phone out of the box to unlock it.

If you order both phones at the same time, their system is smart enough to give you the discounted plan price on the 2nd one. If you ordered only the 1st phone, then you have to wait until the 1st phone has been activated, and you actually have it (because you'll need to receive a security code on it to log into your account), then log into your Metro account and use the ADD LINE function to add/buy the 2nd phone to get the discount.

You need an account to order a second phone/line. You create an account after you activate the first phone. Note, that when you order a second line, the payment date will be based on the first line and Metro will prorate the second bill amount.

Based on the responses from the bigger $125 IP12 Metro thread, you have to get the phone first before ordering the 2nd one. I think the Metro account needs to active first before you can add a 2nd line.

That's good to know. I've always order one phone at a time.

Do you have to port in a phone # for both?

But it will still be locked in the box for 12 months per their device unlocking policy, no?

Yes, you'll need to provide two phone numbers eligible for porting in.

Were you able to order two phones/lines at the same time online? Because when I try to add a second line to my cart I get the following:

Are you trying to add additional lines?
We can only process devices for a single line online. To add additional lines to your account, please visit your nearest store.

If you want to continue with this purchase, go to your cart and remove the device before proceeding.

Yes, it will still get locked for 12 months. That's why I asked the other person if he planned to sell it as locked or unlocked. If he's going to sell it as locked, then there's no need to take it out of the box IF he has another phone on Metro to receive the security code to log in and transfer service from the i12 to another phone to free up the i12 so that the buyer can use it with their own Metro account.

I have always ordered only one phone at a time with Metro. Another person told me that he was able to order two phones at the same time. Maybe he gave me incorrect information. I know that with Total Wireless I was able to order two phones at the same time to get the discounted plan on the 2nd line.

Maybe Metro has changed their policy, at least I wasn't able to get it to work.

Anyways, I have ordered two phones in separate transactions. For the second one I used my wife's info (name, email, phone #, cc) and I also did it from a different device/ip address just to be safe. It all went smoothly. For my wife I had to answer some questions to verify her identity, but I didn't have to do that for myself. I have been a Metro customer previously, albeit briefly, though.
