How much do you expect for a non-carrier promotion for a 4-year old base model phone?

AT&T & T-Mobile offer $1K value for iPhone 12 with their premium plans. Many are buying it for trading in with their carrier. Already got a 12 from Metro last deal, which was $50 more.

Keeping my current phones (13 and higher) as spares so I can trade these in instead for less.

If you don't auto-pay or extend service, there is nothing to cancel. You just stop paying. Based on what I have read, device should auto unlock after 12 months from activation and continued service is not required.

Check out the unlock policy link I shared earlier.

I was worried they may run out of stock soon, so I just went with $75 plan to secure it. Just got my order confirmation in the email too.

Yes, you made the right choice - the $75 plan is required

Buy a number off ebay
I no longer am able to find port numbers on eBay. My keyword searches are "at&t port number" and "verizon port number". Do you have any suggestions on what keywords to use? Can you provide a link to any active eBay listing that provide port numbers? Thanks.

You can get a number from numberbarn.com, numbers start at $5 + $2/month for park plan.

Thanks. Are you able to select which carrier the number belongs to via Numberbarn? Also, are you able to get a number to port over to Total By Verizon where Total sends the number a text message to verify that number?

No, you cannot choose the carrier. But it seems like most (if not all) of their numbers are from bandwidth.com (same provider that Google Voice uses). Their numbers are classified as "wireline" (vs. "wireless") - see FAQ on the bottom of this page: https://www.numberbarn.com/number-parking [numberbarn.com]

As for SMS, according to this page you can receive SMS via their web portal and mobile app, and you can also forward SMS to email: https://www.numberbarn.com/pricing

So worst case my relative will get around 1.5 months of service from these two plans if I were to use them back-to-back.
Be careful with how Metro manages multiple lines in the same account. Let's say you activate the 1st phone on 9/25. Its service will end on 10/25. Let's say you activate a 2nd line in the same account on 9/30. BOTH lines will expire on 10/25. The unused 5 days of the 2nd line will be treated as partial credit toward the 2nd month, if you choose to pay the 2nd month. So, you won't get 1.5 month of service like you thought.

I think Metro purposely "ration" the availabilty by putting the device in and out of stock throughout the days. You'll have to keep checking.

Porting out of which place? Metro? GV? Numberbarn? etc. You can port out of Metro anytime after activation. I've ported out of Metro to Total Wireless four days after activation.

Metro no longer ship a physical SIM with their iPhone 12. Activate it using its eSIM. You'll need to turn it on, turn on Data/Wifi so it can go to a Metro/T-mo site to download the eSIM to the phone. Search for your order on Metro web site using your order number, last name, zip code. When you find it, scroll down and click on the yellow ACTIVATE button. It'll walk you through what to do.

What do you contact for? Ask them to ship? Mine was ordered on Friday and not shipped yet.
