I had an expiring $5 rewards, so I took a chance on the 1TB. Final price was the same as a new 1TB I got from BB in February 2023, but $10 more than another new 1TB in June 2023. Both with $5 rewards. (I so miss those days!!!)
It was wiped. Once I created a GPT partition and simple volume, it was 97GB TBW, Power On Count 5, Power On Hours 0 hours. (I would attach the CrystalDiskInfo, but can't find out how to attach *local* files.)
Update: Once the message was created, editing the message allowed me to attach images.
Woo-hoo!!! Essentially a new drive!!! And not burned out by mining, etc.
Based on my restores of Windows 10 Pro to the new 1TBs which also were 90 some GB TBWs, it seems the person tried to to transfer from a HDD. Or tried to install the OS outright.
The transfer/install failed and the person bailed without extensive troubleshooting.

So, if you do buy these, make sure to look at the date of manufacture (it's on the label) and immediately run CrystalDiskInfo or a similar utility before you put any sort of data on it to check the drive health. I would also suggest installing and running Samsung Magician to update the firmware on the drives if the date of manufacture is any older than 2024. Samsung Magician will not work with these drives if mounted externally, so make sure it's plugged into your motherboard via the SATA header.
All 10 Drives that I kept had less than 100 hours usage so they were practically new…

Anyhoo, what is interesting one of the new EVO 1TBs I have was manufactured 2022.10. Magician reports currently running the latest version of Firmware, SVT02B6Q. S/N S6...
The second new EVO 1TB was manufactured 2023.03. Magician reports currently running the latest version of Firmware, SVT03B6Q. S/N S7...
The refurb EVO 1TB was manufactured 2024.04. Magician reports currently running the latest version of Firmware, SVT03B6Q. S/N S7...
It appears EVOs with S/Ns starting with S7 have newer NAND and use the SVT03B6Q firmware.
EVOs with S/Ns starting with S6 have older NAND and use the SVT02B6Q firmware. They are not compatible with SVT03B6Q firmware.
(The two new EVO 1TBs each have less than 8 TBW at this point.)
I probably need to figure out how to register these S/Ns with Samsung.

The other poster above my other post has shared pics of their refurb that shows it was manufacturered in 2024, so hopefully their stock of refurbs are mostly 2024s, because those are the only ones that I would trust (personally) to not have any batch-related problems.
As far as I know, you don't need to register. You simply show proof of purchase when claiming warranty. If you don't have it/don't have it anymore or bought it secondhand, then Samsung will warranty it from the date of manufacture (which is why they started printing the manufacture date on the labels)
