Merrell quality has gone down hills. I bought moab speed and moab 3,,, speed had its sole detached after a year and now moab 3 would require shoeglue right after 1yr of use.

Edit: I am a very light hiker, longest I have done is like 10mi. I only hike like 4.5miles per week when it is spring/fall/winter. When it rains I wear speed gtx, when it is sunny I wear moab 3. My last pair was a NorthFace GTX (yes back then they still made shoes) and lasted like 10yrs... The speed I def had <100mi on it and moab 3 maybe a bit more. But again I don't expect them to have quality issues immediately. I am an average man 5/8 155lb.

Can't provide any data to support but I would anecdotally agree - the original Moab Gore-tex shoes were the bomb and lasted me hundreds of miles of walking (I walk tons when I travel and these are great travel shoes). The 2s were ok but showed more signs of wear in less time.

I personally only ever buy these on sale because in no world are they worth the MSRP any longer.

You need to give a little more information. How many miles of hiking did you do with them?

What kind of terrain did were you hiking?

This may not be a good deal for you, but might last someone like me 3 or 4 years.

Thanks. In that case, since these are on sale, would you recommend them at this price?

Make sure to try them on before you buy. I could not get used to these.

Yup.

My Moab 3 mid (non-Gore-Tex, but sold as water-proof) started leaking shortly after a year in one boot when the water level was just above the sole. And this was not when standing stationary in water, it was just a step through some water on a gravel path.

Very lite use, maybe a hundred miles.

Previous Moab model (not sure 1 or 2) survived many day hikes in Teton/YS, Wyoming, badlands, and around my home state for a decade before falling apart.

Picked up a pair with Gore-tex for $85 after tax. Been waiting on getting a pair for doing work in the woods. I got the Speed pair previously I've been using them as mowing shoes after several years of use in the woods doing trail maintenance. They weren't waterproof and the sides were busting out from trail and briar abuse.

Wish the tread design was more aggressive like the Speed shoes.

Hopefully these will last as long.

100% agree that Merrell quality is now junk. I won't be purchasing Merrell again.

Do you leave your shoes in the garage, or inside your home?

As someone who mostly buys Merrell shoes. They lasted long and fit extremely well in the past. The quality has gone down hill a lot. I passed on this one. I bought a Moab shoe in the past where the sole fell off the shoe. (not sure what series) I do remember the orange vibram on the sole.

Are these good shoes for snow? If not, does anyone have any recommendations? I usually get my shoes in wide width.

You sure you got a legit pair? I just trekked through the Mojave desert in mine and I felt like Spider-Man on the rocks out there. The Moab 3s are by far my favorite hiking shoes. Even got a separate pair I use for walking.
